Wingnut Wings the 'Duelists' Felixstowe [early] and Hansa-Brandenburg

This is a big kit box wise and content the Felistowe F.2a when built will have a wingspan of 91 cm so its a good thing the wings have been designed to be removable from the engines outwards to make it easyer to transport and store. Lets start with the box Wingnuts usual packing is a cardboard base and the lid of thin card but on this kit both are made of cardboard. You can see the difference in box size to a normal wingnuts kit in one of the pictures below and on opening the box its packed to the brim in grey plastic sprue's.

The review will take part in two sections starting with the Hansa Brandenburg W.29.

Lets start with the wings unlike most wingnut kits the wings for the Hansa are of a thicker section so you get a more conventional assembly in this kit with an upper and lower section but as always the detail of the wing tapes and other detail has been retained there is also a steel spar included in the kit for the wings. You can see on the upper wing internals the network of suports and the groove where the steel spar will be fitted.

Onto the fuselage with the normal mode of construction with wingnuts where you build an internal structure that the outer fuselage fits around. As always the detail is amazing with many small parts.

Next its the floats and tail sections again the detail is all we expect from wingnuts with absence of any flash on the parts.

You get two sprues that have the trellises and wheeled float carriers for movement on dryland. The last sprue is the standard Mercedes engine with different choices of propellor. Also included are some clear glazing parts.

The decals include full lozenge paterns for the upper wings,tail plane and fuselage top in the first picture you can also see the steel spar. The other decals are for just one aircraft flown by Friedrich Christiansen who was awarded the shooting down of the Felixstowe as his last and 13th victory. You can also see here the small etch panel provided for both kits along with the small name panels.

Next comes the Felixstowe.

The Felixstowe sprues are of a lighter grey plastic than the darker Hansa sprue's so making it easyer to not mix up the parts for each kit. We start with the two R R Eagle engine sprue's lots of detail again here fot the Felixstowes power houses.

Next comes several sprue's that hold the fuselage outer and inner details lots of high class moulding here.

The wings are of the one piece moulded type we are used to from wingnut wings but being so large they are heavy so the outer wing suport trellises will come in handy here. again greta detail on all the parts

The main upper wings are a one piece moulding thats very impresive.

The last few sprue's contain the upper fuselage, guns and glazing sprue's along with the felixstowe decals.

At the bottom of the box we find the thick double kit instructions in the usual Wingnuts format with actual pictures of the aircraft ect.

A great kit in all but I would say not for the inexperienced modeler as I can see challenges building the Felixstowe with those huge wings.

Thanks for looking in and your coments, I saw the WNW Lanc at telford last year and at the same show saw the HK Lank in my opinion the WNW would be the better bet for detail the HK kit has so far had quite a few bloopers including the rear tailplane missmatch and the missing rivet detail on the clear parts. I myself am looking forward to the Handley Page 0/400 WW1 bomber Link below-
