1/9 scale MFH Brough Superior ss100

Post by Modelfreek »

Hello fellow modellers!

Just thought I’d share some of the more unusual kits in my stash and do a review of this
Very highly detailed kit from Model Factory Hiro. And for those motorcycle enthusiasts,
Something a little old school.

So we start with the beautifully presented boxes. Now I say boxes plural because I also have
A sidecar that goes with this. But I digress......

Ohhhhhh ! that has curb appeal for sure. I'v just paid for a 1/9 scale kettenrad and the molds are old and flashy , but this is top shelf. Just need the Lawence of Arabia figure to go with it.
More pic's definitely needed AND a build post.
Are you going to get one of the Montgomery Anzani ? also looks extreme :th: :th: :cheers2:

Simply presented in a very sturdy box and not a lot of artwork as such which leaves
A nice surprise as we delve into its contents. On to the instructions. MFH provide
Comprehensive detailed instructions with easy to follow illustrations and colour call
Outs tho top tip, identify and label all the smaller parts I.e rivets, connectors and what not
To make it easier during construction. Also dry assembly of the entire kit as suggested is a
Must to head of potential problems during assembly as these multimedia kits need adjustments
And alterations prior to any paint....

That would be nice to have too. And this is going into the build schedule though I have to
Finish the mclaren MP 4/6 first... :shifty: wasn’t supposed to mention that...

What’s surprising about this kit is the decided lack of resin parts as most of this kit is white
Metal and photo etch. The molding of the resin parts is crisp with little to no flash and just

Next we move onto the rubber parts of the kit represented by the tires, seat and foot rests
With a surprise at how BIG this will be once finished....

The wheels are beautifully done but are a separate rim that need you to sew the individual
Spokes. A lot of work but the payoff will be fantastic.....

That's a very impressive looking kit. I can only imagine how badly I could screw that up.... :)
Spoking the wheel probably not the right terminology, but it'l do. Looks very intriguing, how is that accomplished ? Precut wire ? is there a jig to hold the centre hub in place ?

So the conclusion for this kit...

It’s not for the faint hearted as it will demand and test your skills and commitment
To stay the course and finish as with any MFH kit but the pay off is worth every minute
Invested in these kits. Next the sidecar.....

Fortunately yes there is a jig provided and the instructions are nice and clear as to the correct
Sequence. The wire is precut so it just a matter of sewing.

The correct term for fitting spokes to a wheel is lacing, i.e. lace the wheels. :cheers2:

Thanks chaps!

Onwards with the review, we now turn to the sidecar. Once again the instructions are clear
And precise. Parts are easy to identify as are the colour call outs. Though I think the Japanese
Used google translate as some of the English used here is a bit of a laugh....

Most of this part of the build is with resin parts making up the tub, door and fender for the
Outboard wheel...

Now onto the white metal parts that represent very nicely the leaf spring suspension, main
Frame, luggage rack and connection points with the bike frame as well as the wheel rim and
Jig for the spokes.......

And finally some leather for the seat and minimal decals....
F7F2AA53-4B8A-4864-88EA-F0D53987D223.jpeg
All in all a beautiful kit on its own but combined with the motorcycle will build up to
A really nice display piece. Not one detail is missing and from what I can tell from the
Reference material, nothing to add or scratch build to improve accuracy. So I would
Recommend these kits as it will reward your efforts nicely. I would however say that
Experience with MFH kits or at least multi media kits is advisable before tackling this
Particular one but if you like a challenge and want to stretch your skills have at it!
