Lando's Millennium Falcon

Post by jmurphy18 »

Well Folks I managed to finish my Tie fighter and was looking for something else to build as I enjoyed the SiFi build. My wife is a big Star Wars fan and I asked her if she wanted somethings and she picked out this model for me to build. So not only do I have her blessing, I got funding for the kit :). I had better not screw it up as it will be placed on her desk when I finish :eeek:

So here is what I actually have:
Image

Not quite the same kit as BobM, but the same scale 1:144. This one is clean and shiny and has the pod in the center & is removable

I am not brave enough to try the lighting from scratch just yet and the kit lighting was $67 so we passed on that.
Here are the Sprue's

Not sure why you get two stands.... Not read the instructions that far yet.

here are a few pages of instructions, just not all of them.

Update: I did some premiering last night. I have the body and the cockpit small bits done in MrH Black with some leveling thinner. Took a fair amount of primer and thinner to get the job done.
Image
Not the best shot but KiwiGav asked about my light tent so I took the shot there.

Thanks Scott! That big silver thing in the back is my water drop rig :D
My light tent I have had for ~ 20 years now. They are great, but I do a lot of macro work hence the light tent. My 12" one is what I store the cars in when I clear

I did some work on the interior section of the Falcon. Right now waiting on some flat white to ship as I do not have but a tablespoon. So I cannot paint the outer section or the body at this time
I had some issues with the decals while placing Lando in the cockpit. Basically the center trio just pulled off  :wall: So I removed these and all around and painted all the details in with a 20/0 brush.

So this is all I have done so far as I wait for my flat white.

How come this Falcon has a closed front and others have the open mandibles look
I can't figure that out :

Scott
It does have an open window area.

Shot from the instructions. Unlike BobM or the 1/72. there is no glass on the Lando model. Note this was revamped in 2018 according to the instructions and copyright on the kit. You get no options on this kit.

This is based on the Falcon from Solo, when it still belonged to Lando Calrissian. There was an escape pod fitted (between the front mandibles) which is later ejected during the Kessel Run.

Good progress :th: :th: remember don't use mineral spirits for weathering that plastic is a bit funky with that I used Ultimate clay washes on my (proper) falcon lol

Update:
I was able to finish the top section
Image
Image

Once I got this far I put the 2 half's together and made a whole unit. Yesterday I worked ~ 6 hrs and dedicated almost a roll to the gods of taping. I think I was crosseyed after I was done. I picked a pattern to paint as I did not want to use stickers on the Falcon

ode to the gods of tape
Image
just finished laying down the blue paint pattern before the heat index here hit 104 again :(
Next step is detail paint and learning how to weather

Update: I got the stripes done, the detail painting done, the colors and all the base coats are done.
Image

I painted the square spots around the openings so that the tape patterns were not obvious. I am getting ready to go lay down some flat clear on the body. Should be fun. temp is 90 feel like 104

PS my wife is happy with this and that is all that matters

Looking good...and then dirty up that white and blue like a mad man
There were so dirty and grungy in the films.
Some dark umber oil paint is a big help for space stains....just a touch on a q tip or blunt brush and then smoosh it along.
