I've had a bit of a disaster with the engine cover. There was some orange peel so i tried to flatten it out for polishing but went right through the 2k clear. I absolutely hosed it on or so i though. Not the end of the world but definitely a pain in the bum !

Nightmare! These things are sent to try us, I'm sure you'll be bale to sort it, just frustrating more than anything else, keep at it, there are a lot of us that can't wait to see this one get over the finish line.

Thanks gary. as it turned out i didnt break through the clear by flattening it, it just peeled off which was better as i managed to get the rest off just using parcel tape luckily. because of the pearl white i didnt want to key the base coat too much so i only went as far as 1000 grit (i think) I had issues years ago with flattening silver with 600 and you could clearly see the scratches under the clear. i just didnt want that to happen with this.

Finished off the PE brake disc's. The detail parts are stupid small and they only supply the exact amount ! no pressure then

John great job with the FXX build your carbon fiber work looks excellent. I am curious, I don't understand your comment about ordering the wrong the kit, looks to me like you got everything correct, can you explain a bit further? Thanks very much.

Hi SMS, i was a bit confused myself when i first read your comment but i think i know where the confusion has come from.
This thread here is for the Tamiya 1/12 Enzo kit with the 'SMS' PE set.
I think you may have been looking at another thread where i bought the 'SMS upgrade set for the 1/24 FXX

When buying the Tamiya kit i bought the standard red version instead of the limited Edition black version. i just clicked on the wrong kit when buying, completely my mistake. As modelers we dont usually need much reason to buy another kit so i just went ahead and bought the black version that i wanted in the first place.
I now have three 1/24 FXX kits. one built from a standard red kit painted black, two un-built kits, one red and one black (for the SMS up-grade set)

Unfortunatly a rare mistake with a part in a tamiya kit has put it on hold just now. They have supplied two left door hinges

I wasent really sure myself which one was wrong untill i went to fit them. I have two MA26's

I'm like you this year scott, no new kits

Apart from the re-issue of the Tamiya caterham nothing else is jumping out at me. I have the other two so that would complete the set. If they re-issued the one with the carbon patterned nose and fenders i'd snap that up in a heartbeat. It also came with alloy wheels !
I would even go as far as saying they were possibly the best car kits ever produced.

ah, i didnt mean it as a post. i was trying photobucket again and must have hit submit instead of preview.
The good news is it is !!! flickr is a pain in the butt with my phone.
The car is all but done and i could post the final shots but it wont have the R/H door finished or the metal badges on. if it's going to be three months or so to get the correct hinge then i'll just post the final pics as is. i'm really pleased with the way it's came out scott and relieved the colour has worked out ok which was my biggest concern.

I have been waiting quietly for the postman to deliver the correct parts to finish this build for three months now and i have just realised i forgot to phone the hobby co back to confirm the order as the part nbr's i have didnt match what they have. They asked me to phone back the following day when they had more time to check it out. What an idiot !!!!

I have finally finished this build but it was a real struggle to get it complete. I can only assume Tamiya never expected any modeler to be building it from the start as a full kit. Parts just dont fit or line up the same as the usuall kits of today.

The springs that open the doors are not 'handed' they're identical which means one door opens further than the other. I've removed it from the car and screwed it to a board with a fair bit of tension built in to see if i can give it a better mechanical advantage. Both springs are the same pt nbr so it's not a mistake in the kit.

The last things to add were the metal badges on the rear quarter and rear spoiler.Looking at the instructions they appeared to be in line with the centre of the wheels and a bout 10mm in from the wheel arch

After looking at the pictures of builds by the other car guy's i realise how poor my own set-up is for taking decent pictures. I think a decent light source would make all the difference just on it's own so i'll defo look into that for the next one.
I just took pics from as many positions as i could think of so i apologise if i've over done it.
I'm happy with the end result except maybe the red pinstripe on the wheels, it may look better just in black so i may order a set of rim's to see how it looks in silver and just black.

I noticed the much higher resolution pictures on my phone but both flickr and photobucket want cash to improve that. I'll look into flicker but PB can go jump for the way they have held our images hostage.
I'm pleased with the way the enzo has tuned out but at nearly a three year build i wont go to that extreme again, especially with the scratch building

The bonnet wont close properly when the 'luggage' is installed either which is ashame.

If anyone wants the templates for the carbon fibre decals that will cover the whole car / chassis / tub let me know, i'll even cover the postage. One word of caution though- it will take around £200 of decal sheets and there are over 300 seperate pieces to apply.
