Restoring Old Models -Will Glue hold Styrene to part with Old Dried Glue?

I’m restoring some old models a friend has left me. If I glue plastic to other plastic parts that has OLD DRIED GLUE ON ITS SURFACE will it hold up well?

I’m using IPS Weld-On 16 Acrylic Plastic Cement (recommended by someone on this site as superior to Tamiya glue for restoring old models).

PS I'm finding the IPS Weld-On 16 a bit runny and difficult to apply neatly -it does seem to make a stronger bond tho.

If that glue you're using (I've never heard of it tbh) is designed as a styrene or poly glue, then probably not no, as the old glue isn't a plastic. Super glue or CA / Cyanoacrylate glue would probably work, and is what I'd try in the first instance.

If all else fails, you can use the 2 part epoxy type glues. The only downside here is the cure time (30mins to a couple of hours depending on brand and type) and you should probably clamp the two surfaces together whilst it goes off. You can normally handle the parts after about 30mins-1hr, but full strength in the joint usually takes 24hrs, again dependent on brand and type.

Do you recommend a specific 2 part epoxy brand?
