1/72 airfix north american F-86F sabre

Post by ridgers22 »

as the only jet fighter i have any interest in i thought this would be an ideal start for this group build. (and the modelshop dont have any B-52s as of yet). Yes its a 1/72 but gave me my 1st chance to look at the new airfix molds and i must say i am impressed! well done airfix :thumb2: anyways heres the box and the sprues.

cant wait to dig in and get cracking with this. :) I dont think it will take to long but like i said its something to pass the time till my B-52 arrives

Thanks guys

happy building

Very nice looking kit - can't beat the new tool Airfix offerings. You are more than entitled to the information I provided Coen so just say the word and I shall PM them to you :thumb1:

Should be good mate, Sabre is a classic Cold War jet. And I hear good things about this new kit from Airfix.

Oh, where in Bonny Scotland are you from mate?

Wow, tightly packaged in there! I wonder if the pilot could feel the guns recoil, his legs can't be that far from the guns there.

You have to remember the tanks would be behind the aircraft skin of course. And I don't think there would be much chance of a bullet suddenly turning 90 degrees as it leaves the gun barrel lol.

But yeah, impressive packaging in there, any F1 car designed would proud lol, as they aren't much different under the skin.

Yeah I am building more modern aircraft now, but I have a tendency to almost forget about nose weight as well! Luckily Harriers don't seem to need it, but I will prob chuck a bit in anyway to be on the safe side.

Too bad about the nose weight.

Re: 1/72 airfix north american F-86F sabre

Post by ridgers22 »

before i put my final pics up i thought id just put a little bit about the sabre up.

The North American F-86 Sabre (sometimes called the Sabrejet) was a transonic jet fighter aircraft. Produced by North American Aviation, the Sabre is best known as America's first swept wing fighter which could counter the similarly winged Soviet MiG-15 in high-speed dogfights over the skies of the Korean War. Considered one of the best and most important fighter aircraft in the Korean War, the F-86 is also rated highly in comparison with fighters of other eras. Although it was developed in the late 1940s and was outdated by the end of the 1950s, the Sabre proved versatile and adaptable, and continued as a front-line fighter in numerous air forces until the last active operational examples were retired by the Bolivian Air Force in 1994.
Its success led to an extended production run of more than 7,800 aircraft between 1949 and 1956, in the United States, Japan and Italy. Variants were built in Canada and Australia. The Canadair Sabre added another 1,815 airframes, and the significantly redesigned CAC Sabre (sometimes known as the Avon Sabre or CAC CA-27), had a production run of 112. It was by far the most-produced Western jet fighter, with total production of all variants at 9,860 units.

well time for me to say thats me finished this project

my conclusion is that this kit is fantastic... airfix have definitely took there new molds to a very high standard and whoever are making there decals now needs to take a bow. This was so much fun to build with hardly anything to fill. 10/10 for the new airfix kits especially this one.

anyways heres the final pic of my little 1/72 airfix sabre
