Tamiya 1/24 Williams FW11 missing parts !!!

Post by bigdave146 »

Good morning troops !!
I bought a Tamiya 1/24 FW11 model kit off EBay about 9 months ago. The seller said they had started it but all the parts were there. I started building it last week only to find that there are some bits missing from the cockpit/dash that include the steering wheel, dashboard display and the gear stick. I have tried Tamiya distributors in the UK and they said the kit is so old that they cannot get parts for it. They also contacted Japan who said the same thing.

Does anyone have any ideas of how I could get the parts ? I could probably make up the gear stick but if anyone has a spare steering wheel from an F1 or other car kit I could buy, that would be amazing !!

Thanks a lot

Dave

Late to this post, sorry I missed it
That sucks but it sounds like some simple parts
I am assuming this is a 1/20 Tamiya, not 1/24
If you could take a pic of your instruction manual and show the missing parts, possibly could help you figure out a solution
Scott :cheers2:

Other later kits will no doubt share the same parts, This site has many instruction sheets are posted, or it used too I've not looked for a while.

You could perhaps look at later kits and order the missing parts.

I agree, some of the parts are pretty generic really

Ok cool I will have a peek at that and look for some spares in my kits...the steering wheel is very generic
How are you at scratch building?? Have you done that before?

Hi Scott,
The closest I have got to scratch building is where some of the pins from the wheel hubs had been snapped off so I had to drill the plastic out and glue some short cut out bits of a safety pin in their place !!!!! This is my first kit in about 25 years so its all a learning exercise once again.

Ok
I am printing out that page of instructions
Steering wheel is the same as on the lotus I made in the spring...so I can cast you one or just send mine
The instrument panel(A-21) and the crossmember for the cockpit(A8) can both be made from flat styrene, not have to cast anything
The challenge is to get the dimensions right. My Williams kit is a FW13, so not the same
I would be happy to make them and find a steering wheel, just gotta figure out how :

Got a Dr appointment tomorrow, but will give it some more effort on the weekend.

That is a good start in scratching
I was looking to see how available that kit is, pretty scarce kit

That be ok @bigdave146 ?
You said gear shifter as well part A3?? That was a different # in the instructions than the parts you said were missing :

OMG this place is awesome !! I think I may have found a steering wheel here in the UK, so if that isnt possible, i will give you a shout. I will make a gear shift out of some wire, and see how it looks.

The build progress is here - https://www.scalemates.com/profiles/mat ... ject=42849

Many thanks for your help !!
