Proxxon and Dremel do mini drill stands as do many other suppliers I know its a bit late for you but handy for future builds-

I have the Proxxon one and use it more than I ever thought I would.

Your right they are very handy and I have just seen a TV add saying we now have a local dealer .
I will be looking for a better vice to hold these small awkward shaped parts. If I can do that half the battle will be won. That is where I went wrong trying to hold two loose items in perfect algeinment...it was never going to happen. My 2 mistake was thinking I could.
One of those proxon milling machine look the goods as the vice table can be manipulated in 2 planes.....damn pricey though.

I have a couple of sets of teeny tiny drill bits. I love them. They fit perfectly into a pin vice and are sharp as hell. This set from Amazon matches one of mine.

Slow progress, but at least I have the frame together. Doesn't it look Apache like ? A little compressed.
I spend as much time correcting my mistakes as I do being productive. 70% my fault 30% with the kits problems OR it could all be self induced with a cascade effect.


The attachment points are a little small when connecting the pilots cage to the engine frame work.

Sorry it's been so long guys.
I had to apply a little pressure to get the bottom bars to come together


I added the pe and cockpit dials. However those large side panels I had wouldn't fit. They where just too large which saddens me as half the Pe upgrade set was wasted.


All the bar work and linkages is largely completed. I have do do a little painting before the panels and front wheel is added. Then I'll think about those damn rotors again.

It would be handy, but just as important is the vice needed. From what I have seen the Proxxon 20392 Primus 75 Prismatic Vice would be the most suitable, but may not be perfect. Starting to add up to some serious coin though and that's always a problem.

A trip to the local hardware store yielded some Balsa sheets which I proceeded to cut to size.


Some 4 inch nails and a hammer produced this untidy construction.

Then I smashed up some yellow ochre oil pastel added some low odour turps and slapped it on. When it dries a little I will brush on
some AK fuel stains to hopefully produce a light teaky colour.

I was a logistics engineer before moving into IT. Worked for the Blue oval here in the UK and had the joy every year of supervising the strip-out and re-installation of high level and live line-side storage racking during the annual 3 week shutdown. The last week was always the nightmare as everything had to be in and commissioned by the end of the three weeks so in the last week as fast as the conveyor guys were installing the track beds my gangs would be following along behind putting up the racking and work stations. The firm working for me had a charge hand in Liverpool one year - 5' nothing little redhead who thought he was a hard nut and kept stopping the gang for tea breaks - which got the plant manager down on my back. By this time I've been in-plant for 9 days and nights catching the odd nap when I can and a cup of tea and a sandwich whenever I was near the canteen so, as you can imagine I was tired and irritable. Come the Tuesday afternoon I wander down one line - and there's his gang stopped for tea. Again. I got kind of shirty and stormed up asking what the f**k they were doing and little hard case totally misjudges the moment and gets in my face demanding to know what I was going to do about it. Apparently two of the gang had to stop me banging his head on one of the big roof support stanchions - with his feet about two foot off the ground... Never had another problem after that in the all the years I covered shutdowns..... Can't think why....

No prob, a little hi jacking adds a little flavour and I really enjoyed both stories.
I must be like your favorite contractor cause I didn't finish on time. Got my internet back today, but with work suddenly piling up I haven't the energy or time to do much and as a consequence have only been doing a 1/2 hr a night. Never the less this is what I'm up too and almost over the line. This is a tail sitter despite me loading some lead in a few places it wasn't enough and the obviuos place behind the seat panel didn't have room due to the linkages.
Decaling done and still have to panel wash and a little light weathering.



Platform is almost complete. I added some tie downs as I figured they must have had something to lash it down with. Even though I have no photographic evidence to support that.

A little something about the inventor of this design and his efforts
Factoid
Anton Flettner was a German aviation engineer & inventor who made important contributions on airplane & helicopter design. During the WWI, Anton Flettner developed remote control & pilotless aircraft projects, which culminated in the prototype Siemens Schuckert Werke 1000 kg wire guided air to surface missile of 1918. Following WWI, he directed aeronautical & hydrodynamic research institute in Amsterdam and during the WWII, he headed the Anton Flettner Flugzeugbau GmbH, which specialized in helicopters. It is believed that the firm was founded in Berlin in 1935. By this time, however, Flettner had developed the idea of counter-rotating, intermeshing twin rotors. Many of his advisers thought that the airflow disturbed by the intermeshing blades would make this system less efficient than one using a single rotor; but Flettner believed that any problems thus encountered would be more than offset by the reduced drag resulting from having no external rotor-carrying structure. His pioneer work is often overshadowed by the more publicised activities of his contemporaries Heinrich Karl Johann Focke and Igor Sikorsky; yet Flettner’s helicopter, was far superior to the Henrich Focke’s FW-61 and made a successful free flight several months before Igor Sikorsky’s VS-300 began tethered flights.

Just about done, a coat of matte varnish tomorrow.




In reference to the platform, it was used as a landing site on board ships.

Flight testing of the first two prototypes (with enclosed plexiglass panelled cabins and 3-bladed rotors installed, instead of the 2-bladed rotors on production models) was carried out through 1941, including repeated takeoffs and landings from a 13 m² wide platform pad mounted on the German cruiser “Köln”. Intended roles of Flettner Fl-282 Kolibri included ferrying items between Kriegsmarine ships and naval reconnaissance operation from cruisers and other warships. The entire Fl-282 flight test program was not conducted at Rechlin, as was customary for land based aircraft; instead, from August 1942, trials were carried out at E-Stelle See Travemünde. Travemünde was selected because the air traffic safety ship “Greif” was based there and could be used for deck landing trials. The site also simplified helicopter sea trials with the navy, it was also imperative to move the site of the trials from Flettner's facility in Berlin, where there was a greater risk from the growing Allied bombing raids.

This design while solid had its problems and is less speedy than a single rotor design.
