Slightly off-topic - but related - question: whats the difference between an ordinary Eduard kit and one of their Profipack ones? Reason I ask is I am looking at their Bristol F2B offering which comes as both standard and Profipack - so is it worth paying the extra for the Profipack??

Profipacks normally contain pe for the cockpit etc plus masks and often different decals to the weekend version which is just the kit usually and you add your own bits

Just a quick few images of the build so far.
The Two sides of Fuselage closed up well, with no issues, and got a few other pieces on like the Tailplane and engine cowling and exhaust.

      Morning all

I haven't posted for a while just with life's art of delaying stuff.
Thank you for very kind comments on build so far.
The Fuselage now has the wings, which went together very well, with the tiniest of gaps between Fuselage and wing root, that needs the smallest amount of filler.
Here's the images of work so far,

I had a few days away from Bench (trip to London and to see friends), and on return the Masking Tape has been removed and clamps, and the wings and seams are nicely bonded.
Whatever you're up to today, have a great day and stay safe.

Well as Storm Dennis swirls around the UK causing mayhem for the 2nd weekend in a row, I finally had a few spare hours to drop into M/C and continue a little with the BF109G-6.
So without a due, lets get an image up with a big fat loving shot of progress,
      Image
Well no doubt its a plane now
I had just a small time this evening to continue with the intakes under the wings.
Nice and simple set-up, some PE and a little jiggling, but voila!Image
      Image
In case they aren't obvious, I finally have learnt how to add arrows. :nena:
These whole small assemblies now require a little A/B work, and will be sprayed with AK Burnt Exhaust
So, for those in the UK, batten down and stay safe. To everyone else, stay safe.

Cheers Kaleb. Its been a rough old weekend here in UK. We have been battered rotten by Storm Dennis. Waterlogged and flooding a plenty.
So this afternoon, a 2nd visit to Cave of Goodies  , for a short period of work.
      Masked up areas.
      Image
Loaded up the H&S Evolution (not used for a while, as I rely on the Apex for most part, but just fancied a change).
Loaded cup with a little Airbrush Flow Improver, and a small drop of Ultimate Thinners, and then Mig Exhaust Burnt Iron mixed in cup and sprayed in required areas.
      Image
      Image
The covers for the Exhaust have been sanded with this Mini-Tool just to thin the internal thickness out a little.
      Image
Not much more to say, other than left to dry and will return later.
Hope you all are having a splendid time whatever your up to.
      Love and Peace,

Well hopefully Dennis will quit being a menace and scurry off somewhere else

How do you like the Evolution? I have a Iwata Neo and a Apex, thought about adding a third brush to have exclusively for primers and use my other two for paints and metal colors.

Its still lingering, Dennis that is. My drive to work this morning was a worrying case of a tiny Toyota IQ fording flooding. It does surprisingly well, despite its size and as it has a top fitted Air intake unlike many modern cars Golf, Audi etc, it doesn't stall, as long as I take it steady.
Evolution? This was my first A/B having returned to Brotherhood after 35 year holiday.
It kept coming up as a all round Good Guy and price wise and build quality, its a winner.
I have added over the last year to it, new nose thing (I never know the name of parts  ), it looks like Antlers. I also added the rear push button, flow setting thingummy, which works well on this model  Its called a Quick Fix (just looked it up for you).
I swap between the Apex for all general A/B and the Evolution for finer work.
They are both exceptional A/B's and the Evolution retails in UK at around £130 - £140 (US $182).
The H&S is on immediately picking up in hand, slightly heavier, which I like. The H&S is incredibly well machined, and very smooth to use. Its not as easy to clean in my view as the Apex, and its prone to being temperamental if the paint is not spot on in consistency. The Apex I have found will drill neat paints of most types with the tiniest of Ultimate Thinner and spray all day.
      I'd certainly recommend the Evolution.
      Speak soon,

Cheers Kaleb, share and share alike regarding knowledge  .
So, after some truly awful commutes home (45 minute journey, was hit by the worse journey home on Tuesday of 3hrs), I hadn't spent much time in Man-Cave and to be honest, I was shattered after journeys from hell :eeek: .
I very stupidly  , missed a colour choice for this kit when ordering some weeks ago, so went an ordered one (you heard right), one pot of paint from www.emodels.co.uk
      Image
RLM02, which is for all of the Exhaust Intakes.
If you remember, I sanded the intakes down with the Dremel Tool. Here they are.
      Image
      Image
So having loaded the Apex with some Mr Hobby RLM02 and a few drops of Tamiya Lacquer Thinner, off we go with a few coats.
      Image
I obviously had to mask off the Grills as these were already painted previously.

These have been set aside to dry, thank God for good ventilation and a fine pull on the Extract, as the fumes are heady
This gave me time to construct the two wheel assemblies.
      Image
I have taken a few fine parts off sprue, a Winder of some description, a Canopy Strut and the Gun-Sight in clear plastic and with a dab of C/A mounted them on halves of Cocktail sticks, ready for painting by Hairy-Stick.
      I'm afraid, thats your lot.
The next stages are thrown over to work on masking Canopy and then overall paint color for fuselage.
      Should be fun,

Good choice with the RLM02 from Mr Hobby.

I sprayed these very same parts myself last week:
      Screenshot_20200217_222654.jpg
I actually have 4 different RLM02 colours :nena:. Xtracrylic and Mr Hobby are very similar and probably the best choice. Tamiya and Ammo are much too dark, especially when you factor weathering into the equation.

      Keep up the great work!

The Apex is a really good Work-Horse A/B but the Evolution is beautifully made for precision works (if I could even carry out precision works that is).

I mentioned this on your post Matt.
When I uploaded my images yesterday, you had uploaded exactly the same stage as I had met.
      Spooooooky :thumb1:
You're doing a cracking job on yours and I'm now keeping an eye out that were not in some weird tandem sync universe :o
The Mr Hobby RLM02 sprayed beautifully but I then spotted amongst the racks of paint, a Vallejo Grey that looked suspiciously spot on for this shade.
Oh well, another pot of paint won't make any difference

      Morning all

Well a little progress on this venerable plane, this weekend.
I haven't managed much after my two visits to M/C on Saturday & Sunday. The UK was bracing itself for another storm by the name of Storm Jorge, which post mortem, seems to have hit Ireland worse than the UK.
I have to say, Saturday morning, following a 04:00 trip to Gym (yeah, you did read correctly :nena: ), and a quick Food shop, was dreary and damp, weather-wise.
I had been left a couple of jobs by the other half, but as both outside work, I could delay for sometime. Unfortunately, the sun broke through in the Midlands, and I had no excuse, but to don my Gardening clothes and with Weapons of choice (Sharpened Spade handed down from Mrs DW's Grandfather, Breaking Bar and Loppers), the project was to move three very established plants from front Garden.
The ground being sodden from weeks of rain, helped a lot. The Rose-Hip came up no trouble, the Rose bush was next, and after a little hacking and pulling, this came away to.
      Image
      Image
      Image
The bush next to these two though.........:
Well despite, 10 circuits of plant, using heavy Breaking Bar to cut through roots and earth, would not shift. I have managed to dig a moat under it, and needs to cut final roots to free it.
      Image
I know, I know, C4 would be better. Its just not usable in the UK and especially in a urban landscape.
I'll get the B&@@£r in the end though.
Anyway, its not a Gardening Forum, its modelling  , so lets get back to this.
I did a little work on a few ancillary parts i.e. Primer.
These were attached to Masking Tape and labelled for future fixing. I normally use Halfords Grey Primer from the Rattle Can, but found a bottle of Vallejo and thought I would use this up instead.
These are the ancillary parts prior to Primer.
      Image
The two Undercarriage parts were primed as well.
      Image
I also wanted to spray the Undercarriage recess areas in wings. So using Tamiya Masking Tape and Vallejo Liquid Mask, these were sprayed with Model Air Light Blue RLM65. Not sure if this is dead right colour, but could not find an exact shout out either in instructions or on the WWW for the Undercarriage Wheel recess areas. Its probably out there but it evaded me.
      Image

      Image

      Image
They look okay, and once weathered with oil and grease, will look convincing enough. You will have noticed the Engine Intake has gone on. Very nice snug fit and just a spot of filler will be required.
I managed to attach the wing Exhaust flaps, paying particular attention to instructions on angles and how they lay. Again, come out well.
      Image
Final job on Sunday evening, was to shoot a layer of the final colour of this, through Apex.
      Image
The Undercarriage looks like this now.
      Image
      Image
They can then be painted with Rubber Black for tyres and two little sections of struts with Silver.
So, a busy couple of days and although only little steps, its coming along fine.
I definitely prefer AFV, I have decided, but its been a useful little depart from my norm.
Hope you all had productive weekends in your Man-Caves, wherever they are.
      Love and Peace,
      DW

For future reference - although C4, PE308 and Semtex are severely frowned upon by the authorities (damned spoil sports) there IS an alternative. You need a bag of high nitrogen content fertilizer - which may need a bit of shopping around to locate and definitely some creative excuses to purchase these days, an can of diesel and a decent sized fire work. Mix the derv and fertiliser in a certain ratio in a plastic leak proof bag add a long fuse to the firework, pack the bag under the plant, retire to a safe distance and light the fuse then wait for the plant to rise gently skywards. Unless you make too much then it will still go skywards but a trifle faster.
We used this method in the late Seventies to take out tree stumps in Windsor Great Park for demolition training. Unfortunately the last one went a bit wrong.. Park Rangers had said if there is a tap root follow it until its less than a certain dia then cut the tap root else the tree just regrows. The last tree was a biggie and the guys assigned to the tap root started following it excavating a tunnel alongside it till it reached the minimum dia. Then found they couldn't actually use the cutters so had the bright idea of packing the root with the same bags used to take out the stumps. As things go - firstly once underground they lost track of bearing and distance and then no one thought to count the bags being used so one team were packing bags under the stump - and the other team were stacking them along the root.... The mix we were using with 1 Kg bags of fertilizer had a small - maybe 10g - block of PE308 as the detonator in one of the bags and this was set off electrically. We retired to a safe - or so we thought- distance and blew the charge. The resulting bang was definitely louder than we expected - and a lot more violent. Other stumps had gone "boom", lifted slightly and then settled ready for the Rangers to drag out at a later date. This one most certainly went BANG and it felt like some one hit the soles of our feet with a hammer. Then things began falling out of the sky, some of them looking suspiciously un-wooden sending us diving under the 4 tonners. for cover. When it all finished and we felt safe crawling out the tree stump had gone. Literally! So had the tap root. And about a 3ft wide trench across the adjacent tarmac road above where the tap root had run. We beat a hasty retreat... It was bit awkward explaining afterwards to the O/C why two new Bedford MK's had dents in the roof.... :D

        Good morning Neil
I have just arrived at work after an hour commute and feeling a little worn and down, and yet with a coffee in hand and sat reading this, I just burst out laughing (the Admin at our works, is used to my weird ways now  ).
I have to admit, that I have used some Fertiliser (much like the IRA used to use it), to create explosions. Back in the tail-end of the 70's, my mate Mike and me, had borrowed a small tub marked with the initials ICI, of garden fertiliser, that I suspect you mixed with water. We found though, mixed with sugar and squeeze into a foil ball, and using a very tightly rolled fuel dampened tissue, we could get splendid explosions.
The best was, when we scraped a hole at the back of Mike's Dad's garage, and then packing the earth around the foil ball, and then after lighting it, we stepped back :thumb1:
        Booooom!
The resulting smoke dispersed, and the huge crack in the brick wall that ran from the site of the explosion and up to the Garage window. The window was cracked.
I remember scurrying away, and leaving Mike to explain. Mikes Dad, was soon around our house and talking to my Mum. The time after that was a blur after 40 odd years, but it wasn't pleasant.
The plant is on a public pathway, and at 54, i'm the youngest by far, so the use of explosions may cause an increase in Tena and AED use.
Thank you Neil for a great story, as an ex-Army chap, I recognise the fun and scrapes we went through.

Your bang on Kaleb. Much as the Internet is an amazing giver of information, it can be too much.

I really do fancy getting a huge banger (said the Bishop to the dancer), and lobbing it under the bush  and touching the touchpaper and videoing the aftermath.
Better done in the evening to get the full effect.
Can you upload videos to this forum?
          Watch this space,
By the way, the BF109 build has made me buy another Profipack Eduard 1/48 FW190A-8/R2

Good morning fellow Sprue Pullers and Glue lovers (that did not sound good).

Well, firstly, I have to disappoint RangerNeil and Kaleb and others, that I didn't resort to the power of Explosives.
Team DW is an astonishing team, that when together can defeat any Beast of a Plant.
We, in the end cut the Beast in to 1/4's with my Wreaking Bar and then worked the hell out of each 1/4. Once we had one 1/4, out we found the Main Tap Root and with the end of a Reciprocating Saw cut it off.
So it now looks like this.
          Image
          and this.
          Image
I need to run a Chalk-Line down the grass, and then trim grass back. I'm gonna work in a bit more compost into soil and then we can put in a couple of Magnolia shrubs.
Now back to the good old BF109G-6.
Sunday morning, The Archers on, and lets paint a few odds and sods.
First to be painted, was the clear part Gun-sight.
Now I affixed it to a cut off Cocktail Stick, and had it lined up with the other small ancillary parts ready for painting. Nope, :o :o :o :o :o its gone missing. Out comes Mini Hoover and Stockings (where is this going : ), and on knees (told you this was kinky), and quick hoover of floor.
Nothing, Nada............. :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:
          It has totally gone.
Had to strip desk and try and find it, but chances of finding a clear tiny Gun-sight are nil.
Will try and find a spare or resort to buying another AM.
The wheels have had the rubbers painted with Vallejo Black Grey.
          Image
Then a job that I have put off for a while, the inspection of the Fuselage join lines.
A little tip I picked up from Plasmo on YT is laying a strip of Masking Tape either side of join line, then working filler into seam. Saves on excess getting on unwanted areas.
          Image
          Image
          Then filler along seam.

          Image

          Image
Its then a case of working along seams in sections with a Tamiya Sponge Sander, and multiple grade Ultimate sticks and of course a Flexi Sander.
It takes a time but its worth it. Then with a Craft Knife blade I re-scored Panel Lines and Re-Riveted where required.
          Image
          Image
So, that was all as Mrs DW was calling me for lunch.
I leave you with a view from our Back Door Window (and with M/C in shot), a fine view at the end of a productive day.
          Image
          Thank you for looking in,
Peace and love as always, and stay safe.

The wingy thing is looking good bud :th: that's a good idea using tape to protect the rest of the fuselage!

          Cheers Kaleb, much appreciated.
Saturday Lunch when me and Mrs DW were kicking seven shades of the proverbial out of the Beast, the pavement / Sidewalk was a constant procession of Dogs and Dog Walkers. It looked like the show parade for Crufts.
Explosives and Dogs? No, No, No
The Wingy thing is coming along slowly (unlike Matt's), and have had to order a PE Gun-sight for the lost unit.

Well another weekend arrives, and Mrs DW awoke on the Saturday, coughing and generally feeling c£@p.
So me, having arrived back from Gym and Shopping (significant drop in stocks at our local food store now), a long chat in Kitchen, culminated with a decision that even though she did not have fever, she had to think as a Line Manager, and how she would react to a staff member coming into work, with cough and feeling unwell?
She stayed at home Saturday, and it seems its a heavy cold. Being a tough bird though :nena: , she went in on the Sunday and despite struggling all day, she did the day.
So, back to modelling, is it me or do my ears keep hearing the word "Modelling", more and more each day on news and media........:
Sunday morning, normal thing. Coffee, Toast and out to Man-cave for a Modellings session and The Archers.
I said to Mrs DW last week, how boring The Archers was and the script writers need a jolly big kick in the pants....
Well, blow me down and call me Shirley  They heard my exasperated mutters.
What a belter of a episode on Monday 9th. Explosions and injuries and masses of shenanigans.
          Awesome job Script Writers :bow::
As you will all know, I love AFV and this was just a kick in the Mojo.
          So whats this all about?
          Image

          Another Winged thing.
I haven't been able to do a whole lot more, than I wanted as you will remember that I lost the Gun-Sight to the Carpet Tile Monster.
I'm awaiting a replacement from the chaps at www.1001modelkits.co.uk of Gunsights REVI 16B x 6
Hopefully then I can close up Cockpit and start colouring in Fuselage.
I also bought some of this from www.emodels.co.uk
          Image
The only thing I could do was recheck Fuselage join lines, and carry on the extremely fiddly painting of the inner Canopy, I kind of remembered why I hate Winged Things :bash:
          Image
          Fuselage.
Cockpit Canopy painted and Painting Masks applied.
          Image
          Image
Thats all folks from me for this weekend. Its a bit disappointing really, but hopefully Gun-Sights will arrive this week and we can get on with some Fuselage painting.
          Stay safe and keep calm.

Bit disappointing to see you have do a big seam line like that. I thought these new 109 kits from eduard were lauded as almost as close to perfection as one could get.

Very far from perfection, it seemed tight but having rubbed a little filler in seam it shows as more of a gap.
Once the Mr Hobby Primer has gone on it should, I say should, be lost.
          One hopes so anyway,

I'm pretty sure it's meant to be there. My understanding is that Bf-109 fuselages were assembled from two halves, joined down the middle, just like a kit!

Without wanting to distract from the thread, I scribed it back in on mine as below.
