Tamiya Castrol Tom's Supra 1/24

Post by ryan81 »

Finished my second ever build with some improvements on results from the first (Impreza Rally '05). Being a 90s kid this car was one of my favourites growing up as a big fan of the early Gran Turismo games.

All of this main body and blacks are done with Tamiya spray paints, with minor detailing done using brushes and the Tamiya X range. The eventual goal is to air spray but just working on the basics for now.

A few pics from the assembly stage:

Had a much more successful time clear coating this time. Was not impressed by Tamiya's TS-13 clear coat on my first build so tried out Mr Super Clear UV Cut Gloss. Two mist coats then a full wet coat produced a much better glossy shine.

As mentioned in a previous post, I thought I had ruined the windows when I smudged turps all over them. After a lot of tutorial searching I found that this can be sanded then polished out after multiple cycles of polish. Before and after (hard to tell but the left window was very damaged):

After letting the clear coat set for about 5 days while I went out of town, I sanded out as much dust as possible (white is not a lot of fun to work with as a main colour as far as this goes) then polished using Novus 2 & 1 then finished off with some Tamiya wax. Not sure my poor camera does the shine justice, but you can take my word for it

Overall relatively happy with the finished product and that the windows are not far off looking new. Looking forward to more improvements on my next build, Tamiya's Tommi Lancer Evo VI WRC.

Any feedback very welcome

Can't beat the look of a good ole 4th gen Supra. Looks good bud. Very appealing livery as well

Looks great Ryan!! And nice save on the "glass" - that can be so frustrating.

I've got this one in the stash as well and hope mine turns out half as nice as yours!! Well done, sir.

I've got this in the stash too, it's a great looking car, and I think you and I must be the same age as it was one of my favourite cars growing up in the 90's too, I had the Tamiya 1/10th RC version too.

Yours looks great, hard luck with the windows, I know the frustration! The struggle is real.
