Xanavi R-35 Nismo GT-R

Well folks I decided to pull one from my stash and build. I have been looking at this R-35 and wanting to give this kit a go so this week I should get a start. Here is the box art. I am going with the kit colors and I have already purchased the paint. going with Splash Renaissance Red 2 for the main body and Nocturnal black for the back end with a P2k glass coat

Update: Well I blew the initial paint of the body...... The paint on the black said to lay down a dark base and I failed to read the label on the red......

I pained any way. I chose to lay down some Ferrari Rosso Corsa Metallic paint instead of the Resistance Red. It was an epic fail!!

As you can see this is closer to Burgundy red than a medium bold red

Well buggers..... now I have to sand the body and re-primer and try again. Back still needs to be black primer so no stripping. Going with white primer on the front to brighten the red.

I will say though, fwiw, that is a really nice burgundy though.

Love the tonal variations in it.

Thanks Barry! I quit after 2 lite coats. I need to lay down 4 - 5 layers to get good coverage. Car is now whit primer and I have some Super Italian Red from Mr Color to lay down on the body later today if I have some time. Still have to 1200 wet sand the body

I used that Mr Color C158 on my Ducati 888, thinned with MLT and it goes down great.

Thanks so much Gary! You were right! I used that and MLT and C158 and the paint went down wonderful yesterday.
here is a picture of the red. I need to paint the black now right after I make this a tape monster

I go my black (X-1) slayed down yesterday. Looks great on the back end. I found I need to paint a few more pieces before I can add the decals to the body. I want to add to put the decals on before I letdown the P2K. I have to do some additional side parts, front body, & rear additions. I am hopeful for next week.

Update: I had some paint bleed through the tape yesterday. I used 50/50 X-18 and it leached through the tape on me. ARGH!!!

As you can see it bleed through on the drivers side door. Really got me good.

I still have some red left and I am going to try to fix this. today. If not I am going to have to strip the body and start again

. Murphy's law strikes again!! Monday I will be putting up with that for 65 years! I should have know it was going to come visit LOL.

. I just ordered some paint from Spraygunners in FL. I should get the paint end of the week ........... Sigh. Guess my birthday present is stripping the body.

Sad Update: Murphy was with me yesterday when I was stripping the body

I I went through at least a 1/2 can of Easy Off Oven Cleaner. The back with the black primer and black X-1 stripped just fine....... The front with black, primer, Red Splash, White primer & Super Italian Red........

I did the inside also with all this and this is the best it stripped........

I have ordered some more stripper but now worried about the body

Having had to strip my GSX-R 7 times, I know just how you feel

My tip would be just use isol, you don't need much, it's quick like minutes, just paint it on with a brush and it goes right to the plastic. Paint on, let it soften (seconds) add more use the brush to agitate the surface, treat half the body, rinse off with water, dry and repeat on any area that needs it. I've don it on car bodies too just as quick mate.

Stick at it Murph it will come right in the end

I second Kev. IPA is all I use, buy it by the gallon (or liter, or litre).

#1 Thanks to all for the kind words from all it has sure lifted my spirts. I did try the Blue Ez-Off and that stuff is not hitting on squat. @bfrd & @Kevthemodeller thanks on the IPA. I have a bottle of 70% I just bought so I will give that a whirl later today as the wife is not here

Gary, you hit exactly how I felt!!

made me wish for my younger days when I use to strip C-130 blades in a vapor degreasor just dip in and it is done......... hot MEK.

I will not tell how many years ago this was this stuff is outlawed now.

minor update: Thanks to everyone's advice I was able to get all the paint off the body with a paint brush and a qtips. A lot of work but it was finally free of red paint & primer. Now I have 3 good coats of Mr Color 1500 primer and Mr Color Leveling thinner on the body. It is ready for sanding and taping today and then some Mr Color Super Italian Red

Thanks Matthew and Hawkmoon! I did manage to tape off the body yesterday. Fighting a bug of some sort so I decided not to paint till felt better when the chills went away, No need to screw up again

Update: Finally got all the body painting done! I got the Super Italian Red, and the Metallic Black and black painted on the body. Body is ready for the P2K. But I do want to put the decals on the body before I do this so I have a bit of small parts to find and paint before I can put the decals on.
