This one has been in the bottom of a storage drawer for too long.






Classic body stylings with a muscle car flair. This thing was the fastest production car until the F40 and others caught up
I have a Testarossa and a F40 both partially built on the shelf of doom at the moment, but will push this one through the cue into the frontish of the line.

Yes it should be interesting and I think I saw it say ‘enthusiast series’ on the instructions...that means more details.

Don't worry about it buddy, we're all entitled to opinions, otherwise the world would be a boring place! To be honest, I agree with you in some respects, the 959 is a bit of an ugly duckling, but I've always rooted for the underdog. It's arch rival, the F40, was always my bedroom wall pin up, and I built an F40 (VERY badly) as a kid and as I've never built a Porsche, and the kit was dirt cheap, I thought why the hell not give it a go.

If I can get my hands on another F40 kit before the GB is up I may build that too, would make a great pair next to each other in my cabinet.

Alrighty gents, she is out of the box and moving forward
I trimmed and sanded some body seams on her big voluptuous curves


Then did a comparison photo with
1/8 Pocher Testarossa...a much more classic 80's car, but already started it.
1/25 Fujimi Daytona Spyder
1/16 GTO is right in the middle

So if you don’t know me, I love engines.
I especially love to detail scale engines and think there should be solitary kits of them...like this one for sure; it is gorgeous!
So far the work involves lots of priming Ultimate white and painting flat aluminum Alclad and aluminum Mr Metal
The kit has an engine stand on the left and the block is sitting in my fabricated one that I made for the F40.
I will put those engines side by side when I get this one done


The heads get the ultimate white and then flat red Tamiya






I am thinking of leaving the exhaust pipes white àla F1 Ferraris of old
The other thing painted was the gold around the driveshaft...that is decanted Tamiya spray TS 21. It is absolutely lovely stuff to work with, just beautiful.The brake callipers will get the same treatment.
The kit is detailed and lovely, but the parts have heavy seam lines, ejector pins and weird holes. There is no way in heck you could leave these on the sprue and paint them as one UTube guru claims is best for small parts. No Freaking Way.
I won’t get all the lines and marks off, will try, but am certain to miss some

I am having fun...and swearing just a bit

I got a fair bit done this morning while awaiting for things to warm up outside
Some black pin wash and some oil stains too. Then wiring up the engine...using the kit’s red wire
Golden carbon black thick acrylic for the plugs, some round styrene rod for the distributor and some bent photoetch edges from a seatbelt set used to make the wire retainer.






She is getting there

So testing the cockpit into the mix and I see that most of the front of the engine disappears


I was thinking of going curbside, but there are no provisions in the kit for the drivetrain rear end display or underside; you know, like fake panels of curbside kits.So I think I just go full on and keep the engine in despite seeing very little of it.
After some discussion with @bfrd this is the example of how it will get painted









Then the interior will be black with red accents

So you used great as Ultimate grey easily lays down super smooth, no diluting and is simple to clean with minimal fumes
As Matthew pointed out, it will be easier to paint the top coat black over grey than it would have been black over black

Great Job, buddy! That engine looks amazing, it's a shame to hide it away..

Even though I'm a huge advocate of "if it's a Ferrari, it must be Ferrari Red", I reckon that paint scheme will look deadly!!!

I had a red car and I want to paint it black

More work on the self isolation Ferrari build
This is interior work time. I drilled al the holes out of the Daytona-style seats



Then did the red black theme and used some photo etch I have as accents
Combos of Ultimate black(flat) and Ultimate gloss black. The red is Tamiya flat red over Ultimate white to let it pop



Thinking of deeper dishing the rear wheels
Probably not as it is not the standard look.

Wow busy forum, my car is like three pages deep! Awesome to see more action online

Messed with wheel details; a black insert or a red line....consensus is leave them be silver





Got the door hinges glued up and the front hood bonnet. The rear engine lid is still loose and can be added at the last moment



Touch up primer work around one fuel filler door as my TET ran out and spoiled the paint



Now the paint.
The Alclad black gloss base looks awesome right away and then fades fast with touching.
It is almost sticky and especially noticeable when you hold a spot and warm it up, the paint starts to feel weird. Tons of fingerprints too
So on the headlights, I tested some Mr Color GX2 gloss black overtop the Alclad...nice.



This is what I will do with a Mr Color GX gloss coat after

Looking good and nice work and you seem to be having the Alclad black syndrome and the main reason I dont use it anymore. Lots of people report this problem its like you say its like its half cured and handling makes it even softer. It has been blamed on a bad paint batch but that was years ago and thinning it down too much [ you shouldnt thin it just use straight from the bottle/can] or its old and gone off in the bottle . Some people get it others dont but most people just strip and start again the main reason being it never really goes off and that there have been reports of bad paint reactions if you put anything but alclad on top of it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I would bin the paint and use a good gloss black from any paint maker from now on and it may be the case that you will need to strip the body too.

Do a search on google using 'problems with alclad black base' and you can read the same as I have.

Reminds me of the issues I had with Mr Hobby Auqeous gloss when I used levelling thinner, it dried like a rice pudding even after a week in an airing cupboard. What thinner if any have you been using Scott?

Yes I remember the Alclad issues, especially with their clear before the Aquagloss came out
I used it neat right out of the bottle
At this point the Mr Color went on and hardened well overtop and I will monitor it, maybe try the bonnet first.
If not preforming, I will strip the whole thing

So far two coats on the rear deck of Mr Color GX gloss black with MLT have gone down nice and smooth.
It has hardened up very nicely as well
Will do a clear coat of GX 112 overtop tonight and see how it goes

So.
Black is all repainted and drying now.
The engine deck lid was my test piece and this is what it got



Coats of black (1:1 MLT) yesterday and then two coats of clear (1:1 w MLT) plus a final thin mist of just MLT to smooth everything
I have some dust in there as the slightly tacky Alclad black is a freaking dust magnet
Holy cow I fought to clean, tac rag and tape grab any bits of dust, styrene sanding residue.



The body is all painted, just gonna let it harden up before clear coat.
