Douglas F4D-1 Skyray : The FORD! Tamiya 1/48.

Post by pg265 »

Hi,

I've started, once again  a Skyray !
I love the aircraft which is one of my all time favorite.
This one is the sixth... or the seventh I build.
... But there are so many great schemes!!

I've used a Cutting Edge resin cockpit with the Douglas seat, but still wonder if I will use this one or a MB Mk P5 for a retrofitted aircraft...
Decals will be from Cutting Edge too and from Furball (: )

Few pics of the begining of the Build :

Wow great work dude.

Really like the shape of this aircraft will have to keep a lookout for a kit to add to the stash. :th:

Amazing... Really amazing. When I see how your work looks like compared to mine first model (actually I wont call it a model anymore, just a piece of s***), I understand how much I still have to learn. And how a REAL model should look :) I will follow this thread of yours too

Hi,

Once again a big thank for all the kind comments ;)

Some more pics of the light progress done on the SKYRAY.

the locking system of the canopy :

Nozzle :

Landing gear with "fresh" inks and oils which will soon be "lightened:

I've worked on the landing to give a more realistic shape, mainly on the upper part of the stuts.

Weathering on the Navpac:

Wing tanks with turned metal refueling probe:

Nose and cockpit joined the fuselage.
Intakes and boundary layer trap will soon arrive:

Guns were turned and will be installed later.
Pylones will also be detailed with photo-etched sway braces and may receive the stunning AIM 9B from AIRES instead of those I've already done.

Tamiya AIM 9B with Stencils and markingsfrom Two Bobs and HobbyDecal :

Sorry for the poor quality picture... I will try to make a better one soon

Hope you still enjoy the WIP.

Thanks for looking,

Pascal,

again this is amazing!
I hope I'll have such skills... and such patience, because it definitely requires patience, to achieve such levels of precission and finishing like you with your models!

Hi,

Because F4D. So Navy and Marines nickname her FORD .
This is the same for the Grumman S2F whose nickname is STOOF ;)

I've started the AIM 9B Sidewinder from Aires and will add decals and markings from Hobbydecal and Two Bobs as already done on the Tamiya missile.

More soon I hope ;)

Thanks for reading.

loving the build. I'm building Tamiyas 1/72 version pretty much OOB for the Cold War SIG. Its amazing to see the detail you've done and how good a Skyray can look when built by someone with your skills. Learning heaps thanks.

Hi,

Sorry for very late reply.
This is stretched cotton swab.
The hydraulic line is made from the same material.

The detail within the cockpit is seriously mind blowing! :jd:

Holy smokes, if only I could detail like this?!

Did this guy disappear off the planet....this thread ended with his last post during October 2013?!

Would love to see the end result!

Cheers, :cheers2:
