Waffling a bit on the paint. The decals just say matte black. Luckily there is no black on the decals to match. I think I will just use my LP semi-gloss black and then use a dull cote after. If anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to have them. I have never been a fan of BMW (sorry @Twokidsnosleep ), but this car looks pretty darn sweet. I think it would look nice sitting next to my matte Merc GT3. No action shots yet. I am just working on the body so far getting it prepped for paint.

Making some progress. Got the body assembled and mostly cleaned up.

The spoiler is just dry fitted. I left it there while the glue set to make sure everything was lined up properly.

Roll cage went together just fine. I used the interior tub to make sure that was nice and square too.

Resin wheels and center locks are cleaned. I used a razor saw to remove the locks from the base resin. Then sanded down until the holes just became visible. I then used an old airbrush needle to clean the holes up.

Should get some primer and paint later today.

Started on the decals. They are printed but Cartograf and seem to hold up well. The scheme is a bit complicated for my meager talents. The picture below is 6 different decals. Still a bit wrinkly, but they will lay down eventually.

Yes, I am using a small heat gun on the low setting. Curves and a bunch of straight lines are a challenge.

I don’t recall where I got them. I used Scalemates to find the scheme and then google to find a vendor.

I am about 90% done with the decals. I still have the spoiler and tires to paint, so those are left. I had a boo boo on one of the bonnet decals. Luckily they provide extras for a few, and that was one of them. I have more solutions and heat to go, but they are behaving.

I took a little artistic license in some of the placements.

Thanks Scott. Matte is not forgiving. I can see all sorts of silvering I. The decals. The edges seemed to hide, but the larger decals show plenty. May stick with gloss next time.

Looking good and great work

I always gloss coat then decal and after that the dull coat goes on so you dont get silver surfer decals. The silver is from trapped air under the decal because the base coat being mat was not smooth enough for the decals to adhere to the surface properly and happens all the time with mat coats. If you know all this already my appologys for trying to get you to suck eggs.

Worked on the brake discs and calipers. Sprayed the calipers in an aluminum then went over with translucent red. I sprayed the badges gloss black and then sanded down so only the letttering would show.

One of the best looking Z4's I've seen on here. Fantastic work, even though the decals look to have given you a bit of a hard time. I think the matt black is a really great finish, and certainly something I've not seen before.

I started work on the interior tub last night.

Decided this little canister needed to be blue and actually have a hose. So I carefully drilled out the end. I used one of my favorite tools to help me out. An old pin vise with a sewing needle inserted makes a very useful modeling tool. With the needle, I marked the center before drilling.

Then I decided to make PE seatbelts for the first time. Spent about 30 minutes removing all of the parts from the PE fret and cleaning up burrs.

It took me less than 5 minutes to accidentally hit the pad the parts were laying on and send 5 of those parts off into the universe. Spent the rest of the night on the floor with a flashlight. Ended up having to break into a 3rd party seatbelt kit to replace the ones that haven't turned up. Maybe today I will actually get to assemble something.

I have yet to master my own universe and not do exactly that after even telling myself to be careful and don't do it.
Top work it is going to be a show piece.

What did you use?

The dull coat, for me anyway, does spoil it as it's more like frost on the car than matt paint, and does look very rough. Have you tried giving it a bit of a sand with 3000 paper just to tame the roughness down a bit?

Getting really close to the finish line now.

I realized that I forgot to attach one of the scoops prior to painting. Rather than trying to duplicate the finish, I just used some Scale Motorsports carbon decal.

I don't normally like yellow headlight glass, but I thought it would look good for this build. Used an acrylic paint pen for the edge treatment.

Back taillights are painted red.

Just a few more bits and some cleanup and she will be done.
