2003 Motul Nismo GTR

Post by R36adelaide »

Hi all,

Thought I would post up my first WIP thread for the site. Just made a start on another GTR. I've got the S27 photo-etch set and I'm going to put as much extra detail into this build as I can.

Here's some progress shots of the chassis work I have done so far.

Thanks for the comments and interest guys!

Got a small bit done today with the inner of the front bumper covered in carbon and the photo-etch GTR logo added. All up it took 17 individual pieces of carbon decal the cover it properly. Hopefully weather permitting I'll be able to paint the body tomorrow. Seems like the is a COVID-19 shortage of Tamiya TS-17 locally for me but I think I have found an alternative that should give a similar result.

Couple of progress pics - decals have been sprayed with Mr Hobby semi-gloss to seal them in.

Little bit more progress today. Got the wheels finished off with spraying the lettering with a stencil and painted the body. Gave it a couple of coats of Mr Hobby 1500, then multiple coats of Vallejo Metal Colors Aluminium. First time using it and it went on ok. There are a couple of imperfections in it but luckily they will get covered up by decals.

Looking great! Making me want to give it a try, though the Supra I'm doing is making me not want to, hahaa.

Bit more progress made - painted the red sections in Tamiya TS-8 then applied the decals. Couple of tricky ones on the rear quarter where they curve around the sharp quarter but turned out ok. Had to take a couple of test fit shots with the wheels added.

Made some more progress on the GTR. Got the interior painted today and most of it assembled. Still got a few photo-etch bits, seat belts, door cards and other bits to add. Also finished off the rear diffuser with some more carbon decals.

Thanks! I used Vallejo Acrylic metal colors aluminium. It's the first time I've used it and I was pretty happy with how it turned up, just thin it with some of their airbrush thinner and apply it in light coats. I also used it for the silver part of the body.
