Jumping on the "Cool Kids" bandwagon (I wouldn't be able to take the public shaming by Scott!!

) and have made a modest start to the kit...
Trying to finish up the "other" Ducati I'm working on before getting too thick into this one.

Hope to be able to start on this full frontal in about a week, but it was beautiful outside yesterday when I got home from work so sat outside and got to clippin'.

Hopefully some updates coming by the weekend (prob 'bout the time @Hawkmoon is finishing his Duck!!).

Thanks for looking, and if I'm not following the official unofficial rules for posting let me know what I need to do not to be kicked off the team.

Is this your normal method of building by clipping everything off?
It is a new experience for me. I put all the same paint colours in bins, maybe better the same instruction sheet # in one bin??

I'm such a newb at this that I just started doing this a couple of kits ago... like maybe this is the 3rd or 4th kit that I've tried this. Some kits have so few a parts that you don't really need to (like the Revell Corvette C7R I just did).

I mainly do the latter that you asked, clip from the instruction #'s into a separate bin. Then I glue up pieces before paint, after the gluing of parts I try and separate by primer color, then paint color. I always miss something when painting though, but it's usually my hastiness that causes that, it all gets painted eventually, though.

Finally able to make some progress.
Primed everything up and starting the painting process.

First time doing this but not gonna build this one like the "box".
I know that may seem normal for you guys, but first time for me.

Not 100% sure on what direction this duck is going, but have a few ideas...
but what in the pepperoni pizza is going on in Bologna here??

Got the engine assembled, and came out pretty good for me.
Tamiya Gray fine primer with Alclad paints and Tamiya Acrylics.
Got a panel wash.

Started on the exhaust, just not sure where it's gonna go.

Just realized how much my phone's camera does suck... The engine looks way better than those pics do it justice. I need to get a new phone.

Here's another pic of the engine. That oil pan at the bottom is a great color and the gold is two different shades. The valve covers are shaded a bit lighter than the piece on the side.

Anyway, pretty excited to try my idea (it's not ground-breaking, or never been done before) as it will be a big challenge for me.

Crawling along on this one... Got a boatload of parts painted (ok, ok, really just all the black...

)
but did get the exhaust painted up and attached. Little too much red and blue, but I had new paints
from Alclad and wanted to try them. You don't see the exhaust (not really) anyway once the fairings go on.

Looking pretty good. I'm enjoying these bikes after building 4 cars in a row.

As for camera phones There great for snap shots/vids of the kids and every day life but they fall down a lot with the more detail work we try to capture. I use an Olimpus camera to take my pics now.

Thanks Hawk, it's looking okay... struggling with this one as I'm trying to do CF on the bodywork. It isn't working out, to say the least. I've got the fairings done, and they look like garbage, and have tried to do the tank & front fender.

Both have been a nightmare, for me anyway, and the only thing that looks half decent is the little rear shock cover.

I've really lost some excitement with this one so far... but, gonna keep trying to "figure" it out. After working on the model (in other words, pushing myself away and doing something else) I'm jumped on the PC and played some MotoGP 20 online and while racing had a couple of ideas to try for the fender and tank. May work, may not - but not giving in yet.

Not sure how much progress will happen in the next few days, it's been raining here for two weeks and hasn't dried out enough to mow. Supposed to be dry for the next 4-5 days and I need to get outside and clean up the overgrown yard.

I have a (really nice) Cannon DSLR, with different lenses, that just sits and collects dust... too lazy to get it out. Need to, and probably will, but that's a whole'nother hobby.

Got a chance to do a little work on the Ducati late this afternoon and evening - didn't have a chance to work on anything else this weekend. But a little progress is better than no-progress.

Got a new little pin-vise and some bits so I could drill out the brake discs. And got a bit painted up and attached.

Didn't get any detail up sets or anything for this one... so, since the kit rear shock spring is black, I made my own upgrade shock spring.

Started on the front forks and brake calipers.

Little progress, but pleased with tonights work, after work.

Looking great! That silver really pops and I love the heat staining. Do you use Alclad or Tamiya for heat staining? That homemade spring is perfect. What did you use for that?

I sprayed the exhaust with tamiya primer, semi-gloss black, then sprayed the whole thing with Alclad chrome. Next day, taped off the exhaust couplers and sprayed the pipes with Alclad gold titanium, and then added a light coat of Tamiya Smoke to tone it down a touch (the latest pics make it a bit brighter than it prob really is because of the flash, the pics up higher is more representative of what the exhaust looks like). Then used Alclad Burnt Iron to shade around the couplers, and finally used Alclad Transparent blue & red. I got a little too much of the blue and red so I used the Tamiya Weathering Set "D" to bring the red and blue down some. Used the "Oil Stain" color.

I actually like using the Tamiya Weathering sets, I think they look really good and if you put too much you can clean it off with a paper towel, almost all of it anyway. This is only the second time I've used paint to do up the exhaust detail. I need to practice more but Ii have saved some of the straight, thicker sprue pieces to practice on when I'm doing up an exhaust - like, I practiced a little on some before I did this one... Anyhoo, long explanation, huh?

The spring is just the kit one sprayed with primer and then X-8 lemon yellow. The main differences between the kit spring vs. the detail-up spring is the detail-up generally a thicker gauge wire, and then powder coated.

Got the front forks painted up and the rear fender CF done. No pic of the rear fender... sorry, and stinks the front fork pic came out blurry, but I think i nailed the fork tube color. Mixed up Clear Orange and Titanium Silver just like the instructions called for, but adjusted the ratios a bit.

btw, it was a PITA taping off the little black dust seal at the bottom of the fork tube, but came out pretty good. I'll get a better pic tonight, was pumped with the outcome though.

This color for the fork tubes was really the first time I tested multiple colors and multiple mixes of paint.
This is the 3rd mix that I settled on, and I like it - sprayed over X-18 Semi-Gloss Black.

Tamiya does the same thing with their RC cars, as I race several of their RC's, they come out with "Hop-Up Option" Parts for a new kit... a year later they will release the same kit with about half the hop-up parts and call it "MS" or something, then the next year the same kit with the designation "R". Or whatever, they are very into the Capitalistic thing.

Doesn't bother me though, it's not like you have to buy all the stuff.

I've raced my fully "Hopped Up" option car and the not at all one and they are pretty much the same. The option parts look pretty and sometimes will last longer, etc....

Thanks for looking in guys, and your comments. This kit has actually been more of a struggle than the race bikes...

Enjoying it but has been a real challenge, for me anyway. Like the forks, those took me two days to do with the masking stuff off for them.

I ordered the wrong CF sheet so it didn't match or I may have more done, and am now in the waiting game for the correct sheet to come in from New Jersey.

Okay... been several days since the last update. Mostly due to the idiot author of this thread ordering the completely wrong Scale Motorsport CF decal.

It came in on Tuesday and was able to get back to working on the CF bodywork. I will have to admit that it's kicking my butt a bit, but every piece I do get a little better at it. Have the tank, front fairing, rear sub frame and a side fairing complete, but still have a bit to do on the other side fairing to git'er done.

Did the tank in four pieces, and it came out alright... rear subframe don't look too bad.

The front fairing took me about 3-3 1/2 hours to get done and made 5 separate templates for it.

Thanks for looking and am looking forward to getting this one done - but just feel like there is still a ton to do.

On a side note, got the Coral Blue ordered for the Tamiya Leyton House CG901B F1 !!!

btw, that side fairing there is 1 piece made from a template I made... what a freakin' chore - it looks okay and glad I did it that way but not doing the other side like that. Doing the other side in three pieces.
