New to modeling, but not new to videos on it. Recommendations?

Hi forum! Been watching tons of youtubers including ISM on building scale models!
I have a couple questions Id like to clear up before I start any of the kits I have.
First to help with my questions Ill show you the kits I have.
1. Hasegawa 1/24 Denso Toyota 88C 89 Le Mans 20235
2. Tamiya "Esso Ultron" Toyota GT-One TS020 1999. Kit# 24222
3. Tamiya Calsonic Nissan Skyline GT-R JGTC 1996 Kit# 24184


As for questions:
1. Any tips? I have quite a few good tools and good glues from watching a lot of videos. I have decal solutions etc. Obviously these arent exactly entry level cars and I dont want to ruin them and have to buy new ones.
2. Unfortunately the area I skimped on was my airbrush. I only have a harbor freight one. Will this be enough if I practice with it first?
3. I see a lot of videos people use high detail kits made specifically for those models they did. Are there any for those three and if so how would I find them?


Surely more questions but thats enough for now.

I'm not a car modeler in any shape or form, however as a general rule most would recommend you start with a easy kit for the first couple of builds just to break yourself in easy. Otherwise a level of frustration may frighten you off forever to what is a rewarding hobby. Tamiya particularly the newer tooled kits are usually a pleasure to put together, but buy a couple of cheap ones to start with then it doesn't matter if they become glue bombs. Air B ing is a matter of practice and getting used to the tool another good reason to start with a cheapie kit. Check out scalemates to read reviews and to keep a eye on your stash.

I started off with a cheap Chinese airbrush, it was great for learning the ropes, I have since upgraded to a badger patriot 105 & meng vermillion bird.

For the detail up sets:

There are LOADS of videos to learn from, it sounds like you're on the right track so far, my advice would be not to worry too much about super detail sets for now, and just build for fun and get a few builds under your belt and build on your skills.

Of the kits you have, I'd start with the Calsonic Skyline, nice simple one colour paint scheme and decals are fairly straightforward too, shouldn't give you too many headaches, and Tamiya will be a joy to build with no issues.

ANY airbrush is better than no brush, so just get going with it, the only way you are going to learn and improve is with practice.

Start a work in progess thread on here when you start and you can ask questions along the way, so much knowledge on here and lots of skilled modellers to help you out.

Awesome. Thanks for the advice so far. I actually forgot I have two pontiac gtx kits (one is a practice kit), A deserter kit, and I just bought two mk3 supra kits. So Ill have plenty to try before doing the race cars.
