Any Yellow (even the Tamiya Masking Tape), makes my Blood Pressure rocket.

Hello you lovely bunch

Hope you, your families and ISM fraternity are keeping dandy and well?
We, finally, we have a an end in sght to the horrors of the last few months in Chez DW.
I'm not talking about the Pandemic, Im talking about the end to the moment and words that tripped off Mrs DW lips, after she came home from B&Q or for our oversees brethren, Home Depot, Ace Hardware or Bunnings in Australia, with 3 x 25L tubs of White Emulsion, and uttered those fateful words, "Lets paint the Stairs, Landing and Hall"
You'll know from my constant wailing's, grumblings and cries of despair, it did not go to well :eeek:
But,
Finally,
Its coming to a close.

This Friday gone, at 05:00 in the morning, the final coat of this, went down.
Image
Brilliant product. Its a lovely water based product (so no noxious smells), and went on fantastically. The only problem, was the 8 hours between coats.
I was having to apply, go to work to allow it to fully go off.
Its been noted, that as on the tin instructions, it takes a full 7 days to fully cure. It still feels slightly tacky underfoot 72 hrs later. We put it on in two thin layers, with a fine wire wool rubbing in between coats.
Anyway, here's the result.
Image
Image
Very, very chuffed indeed
Final bits of the puzzle i.e. Snagging list, was to change the Front Door colour from its years, and years of old White Paint, to this colour (Chartwell Green), that matches window frames. I had it mixed by the chaps at the Dulux centre.
Why the Fox Knocker? Of course, I'm a Leicester City Supporter for 45 Years
Image
Thin coat on Saturday, and a follow up 2nd thin coat on Sunday, Bob's your Uncle. Wife is happy and so am I.
This all means, that with these little Snagging jobs finished (we still haven't had any luck with a supplier and installer of Glass Balustrade, but have received some extraordinary quotes from companies, that have only quoted off our measurements and images), I can actually get some Modelling done.
So fired up the Bambi Compressor (added some more Synthetic Oil to top up Spy Glass),
Image
Started off with Air-Flow on approximately 1.5Bar
Image
So 1st job was to give the Ditching Log a coat of Vallejo, Panzer Aces, 310, Old Wood. Nice and easy task to get wrist and finger back in groove of A/B work.
Image
I had a quite bit of paint left in Apex A/B cup, so shot through a coat on to Mujaheddin figure I'm gonna use from kit. Just a light spray over Torso and Hat from above to highlight shadows and Crevices. the head was left for a shot of Flesh colour.
Image
I then wanted a light covering (Highlights) of Upper Hull and Turret and Wheels. This I mixed up from Base Coat of AK4135 Green Base, with a few drops of Vallejo White 71.001.
Image
Image
Then a light spray with A/B close to subject to get some Highlights on top panels and areas where bleached by Sun. This came out very well in my view.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Next, was to use same AK Green Base coat with a few drops of Vallejo, Model Colour, Black, 70.950, to give me some depth for lower Hull areas, i.e. Shadows.
I know its not everybody's cup of tea, but I use a mix of Vallejo Flow Improver in cup, just to give a better flow (obvious that  ).
Image
Under the Turret I also gave a coat of darkened mix.
Image
Then under Hull.
ImageImageImageImage
I'm not to worried about coverage at this point as their is so much scope for Weathering with this model.
Next jobs, will be some Dry-Brushing, Decals (very few) and then a coat of Future Floor all over to seal it.
I also need to get on with making up tracks and painting them.
So, not much work but more than I have done in many months in M/C.
Its slow, but its getting there, and I do feel that I'm close now to some fun with weathering :th:
I hope you are all keeping safe and well, and the standard of Modelling on this fantastic site, shows that the many have taken Lock down to the eighth degree
Cheers all,
DW :th:

Hey ho

How are we all?

Well, not a lot more to fill you in on over the weekend.
I did manage an hour or so in M/C, and after a couple cups of coffee and some fiddling and moving stuff around on desk, I thought I would crank up Bambi and do a wee bit more on this model.
Its time to seal the paint, and so I bought out a flask of this,
Image
Normally, I use Future Floor Polish or Mr Hobby Gloss straight from Rattle Can.
This has sat for a while on shelf, so it was worth a squirt through A/B.
Thinned with Ultimate Thinners, and laid down in two very light coats, with 15mins between coats, and sprayed at this Bar.
Image
This is the result.
Image
Image
I then sprayed the Mujaheddin Head with this, to give a basecoat for facial painting.
The only other thing completed was to mix up some Vallejo Aluminium, and drop amounts into the base of the Light units. Once dried, the Clear Lenses will be glued in.
Image
That, I'm afraid is it, as I was dragged out of the M/C for a trip to Lichfield to look at Antiques  .
Well, to be honest, to look at Pictures in an Antiques Emporium.
It was the first trip for me and Mrs DW that we have had since the Covid-19 shenanigans kicked off.
I wasn't honestly comfortable with going out and mingling  .
So after my reservations, I did find myself in an Antique Shop (a very large Old School opposite the Cathedral), and having not found anything that caught the eye regarding Wall Hangings, I did spot this in a Glass Display case.
Image
It just caught my eye and I bought it. On bringing it home, it had not a nick or piece of damage on it, and was made by Dinky.
The Bucket and Tracks are in perfect working order.
Even Mrs DW thought it a rare find.
Take good care all,
DW

Interesting find well done :th:
I'v just done the very same thing in taking the Aqua gloss off the shelf for the first time to use. I didn't thin mine though just cranked up the PSI to 30. To me looks like both still have the same gloss level.

Just a little toy no longer needed.
I was was quite surprised by how many plastic unopened kits for sale, especially Airfix.
I agree that the Pressure could do with being lifted then no use for Thinners. I do find that when spraying Varnish of any sort, it gums up A/B invariably. Its why I tend to lean towards rattle cans.

Morning all

Well, its been a while and haven't posted anything, or rather should have posted something last week, and clear forgot.
Not that it was much to brag about or show you any further developments.
I had laid down a coat or two of Alclad Gloss Varnish, so was ready for Decals.
Except, this has without doubt the lowest count of Decals ever for a kit.
To be precise, we have one Decal to impart on Turret
Image
Its hardly worth adding really
It was hardly worth shaking these two bottles and apply a smidge of each.
Image
After that ground breaking development, I did some Dry-Brushing of raised edges with a touch of Vallejo Black on a wide flat brush.
That the sum total of 30th August 2020 session in Man/Cave
Don't worry, we have more, from Sunday's session to come.

So to update on Modelling (finally), and of course the DIY (cuz I know how much you love the updates on my disasters :eeek: ).
Well, I snuck off to the M/C this Sunday just gone, prior to my shimming up Ladders to install new artwork Mrs DW has bought from an Art dealer in Lichfield. The figures are metal (I can’t denote what metal, but it has some weight to it).
The size of the figures is about 12”, I suppose Action Man size (GI Joe size to our Cousins accross the Pond).
We, or rather Mrs DW, decided to buy five figures in the end. I dare not tell you how much :eeek: , you’d throw up on your latest project. Its not Van Gogh prices, but…………………. :bash:
These were hung by Mrs DW on ladders with myself offering hearty advice from behind, “Up a bit”, and “Down a Bit”
Well here we go.
Image
Image
So back to modelling.
The Turret is adorned with its solitary Decal as mentioned before, and the Turret, Hull and Wheels are attached to said Hull, and have been Dry-Brushed with Vallejo Black.
I decided to utilise a product I have had for a while in my stores, but never really experimented with.
The AK Pencils sets.
Image
I have the Green and Blue set, so wanted to incorporate some pencil use into Weathering process.
I used this particular colour,
Image
Started adding Chipping details to areas, as always associated with general wear and tear, Turret areas habituated by crew, mainly Hatch areas and Grab Rails.
I started off using the pencil dry, but after a while, I started dipping the Pencil nib into water, just sort of experimenting with the pencil, and using the Pencil over the various areas, which gave quite an effective muddy look. Its not perfect, but then again Weathering does not have a definitive perfection about it. It needs some tweaking here and there, and as its water based, its not difficult to "Tweak".
Image
Image
Image
I also used this colour from this set, for further Chipping effects, using a piece of Packing Sponge in Tweezers. This colour came from this Paint Set.
Image
Image
Whilst handling the Turret, I noted that the Metal Barrel had become loose in its aperture (I had used C/A, as in the past, thinking this would hold the Barrel in place). Not this time though.
I used this Two-Part Glue instead, and once mixed uniformly, “Wodged” into Barrel hole and left to dry overnight. Its now solid as a brick.
Image
Image
I left the Weathering process at that stage, and I may adjust the Weathering down a tad to get a lighter effect at a late time.
You may have noticed, or not, that still I have not done anything with tracks.
I really do not like Individual Plastic tracks :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: .
Metal Tracks fine :th: .
Rubber Band, for the most part okay :th: .
These individual tracks are not my Cup of Tea at all.
I am going to have to bite the bullet though, as it needs tracks of some sort. I really do not like painting tracks once on Wheels, I would much prefer to paint them separately, but this style is a real ball ache.
Think this weekend, I need to get a grip and power through  .
By the way, Mrs DW has started making fabric Masks. Now in the 23 years I have known this Girl, she has never been a one for Arts and Crafts. She will darn a sock or sew a button on, but not much else.
Out of nowhere, she watched a YT vid, and made a mask from some loose material, which by hand for first attempt was not bad. She then made a second Mask, again not bad.
I ventured that it would be easier process with a Sewing Machine. Well, I asked around my works, and was inundated with offers of Sewing Machines. Do these units lurk in Cupboards and Attics in every household across the UK?
Our Cleaning Supervisor lent me a fairly decent Singer unit, spools of thread and all the kit required.
Image
Bang!,
Mrs DW is churning Masks out left, centre and foreground. I’m really impressed with her endeavours. The clever Girl, I didn’t know this fact, went to a Charity Shop, bought a ½ Dozen Men’s Shirts, for £15, and used the Material for Masks.
By the way, the Garden has produced a right bumper crop of Beetroots this year. Big as Cricket Balls (which is a coincidence, as we regularly find Cricket Balls in Garden, as we live next door to a Cricket ground. Need to be careful what I boil in pan  . These beauties have been put in Kilner Jars with Pickling Vinegar.
Image
Well until, next week, take care you lovely bunch.

The tank, masks & beetroot are all coming along really nicely DW :)

The only advice I can offer on the individual track links (having screwed some up myself) is to use a steel ruler to try and keep the little buggers in line and to tackle it in shortish sections to try and keep some vestige of sanity.
Cheers, Neil

These individual tracks are not my Cup of Tea at all.
With you 100% DW, I've watched 1000's of Youtube videos where the demonstrator makes it look a piece of urine but mine are never straight, all higgledy-piggledy!

Great job so far on the tank and even more so on the beetroot!

So glad Paul I'm not alone on these tracks. Cheers about Beetroot, if you were close you could gladly have some.

The only advice I can offer on the individual track links (having screwed some up myself) is to use a steel ruler to try and keep the little buggers in line and to tackle it in shortish sections to try and keep some vestige of sanity.
Thats a great tip Neil, I have built a few lengths and they have taken a definite bend even after maybe 6 or t links, I just hate them so much.
Nevermind, this weekend I am going to throw caution to the wind, and bang on with building a full set and see how I get on.
If on Monday you see I have thrown a tantrum, my order of Fruils will be confirmed.

Morning all

Hope you’re all well and your families are keeping well?

So my usual Sunday morning started out with making a batch of my famous Fish Pies. Mrs DW had laid her hands on bags of Fish Products (no don’t ask). Really decent portions of Hake, Cod and Salmon, then some lovely Scallops and Tiger Prawns.
Image
Camera got a bit steamed up as well
So the fish gets very slightly poached in Milk with Black Peppercorns and a Bay-Leaf. The Fish then get flaked in the bottom of a Pie Dish. Loads of Frozen Peas added and a generous squeeze of Lemon Juice and Capers. Then the milk from poaching is used to make a good Cheese Sauce. Finally, in the same pan as the Cheese Sauce, mash up some Spuds (Cooked), and fork over top of pie. Bit of cheese sprinkled on top. Voila!
Two little tins are individual portions and the two Big-Uns are for freezer. That was, with washing up, a good couple of Sunday morning used up.
I finished off some grouting of tiles in Downstairs Toilet and then, finally, finally, we could get into M/C for some chuffing Modelling.
Or, I would have been able to get to M/C if the Mexican Stand-Off next to me wasn’t kicking off. Sergei on the right and Cleo our house Cats, were eyeing up next doors cats for some serious Eye Contact.
Image
After finally “Shooing” both out of Kitchen, I could get to my peace and quiet.
I will have already bored you to death, of my dislike of Individual Plastic Tracks…….
I hate them.
Fussy.
Over-egging.
Just trying to be clever, when Rubber Bands, Link and Length or Fruil look so much better.
I’m not stooping to more cost for Fruil at £28.99.
I just don’t like painting Tracks, when fixed to wheels which have been very carefully painted  . I sat looking at the pots of Individual Tracks and thought in the meantime I would soften the already used AK Pencils effect with a Baby Bud (Q-Tip).
I then got out these three bottles of Mig Productions Rust colours. Dark Rust, Medium Rust and Light Rust. My go to pots of Rust colours every time  .
Image
Image
I painted the Exhaust and Shroud with the Dark Mixture first, quite diluted, and with a 0 Brush, so I could get in on all the Nooks and Crannies.
Image
Then some Medium Rust.
Image
I will then use a tint bit of sponge to get final effect with Light Rust.
All the while, staring at me is my Nemesis the Tracks  , cussing and mumbling to myself "Just get on with it chap".
Image
Finally, finally I thought, “Damn it”, lets just get these tracks on. So I did.
I don’t like painting tracks when in place, as its harder to get into nooks and crannies with brush, but what am I to do?
Here we go.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Three hours later and an awful lot of cussing and expletives (its not easy getting small sections of glued track links to surround Drive Sprocket).
Its done.
Not painted, but on. Thanks Digger, Neil and all for encouragement.
This weekend, brush and paint
Take care folks,
DW

I was watching telly news last night and there was this idiot saying he feels like he is in jail with all these restrictions and won't obey them. All the while talking to this interviewer without a mask. I'm in no doubt he would be one of the first to complain about the medical system if he got infected. What a shame this virus didn't target the stupid the whole world might be a better place.

Morning all

Hope you're all well, families and works colleagues where applicable.
After a drive home in the new car, Smart car, which has come into my hands as of Saturday, after my Dad decided the cost of it sitting on his drive for 3 months and the Insurance, Services and so on, outweighed ownership.
I have a ongoing left leg injury from my Army days, that is increasingly leaving me in perpetual pain. So have been looking at an Auto for sometime. This for commuting use is bang on the buck.
Anyway, after a lovely drive home from work, on the Autumnal Equinox in the UK (what a beautiful day it was, compared to today's wash-out  ).
I saw that a text alert, said Mrs DW was just leaving, so with Tea on and Cats fed, I thought a 40 minute's of time to kill before the Eagle has Landed, would be best spent in M/C.
So, tracks are on the Lower Hull, and its the part I'm dreading for so long, of painting Tracks in situ :bash:
I already had this paint set in stock from Mig Productions.
Image
I selected the following Paint from set and with a No5 Brush, and diluting Paint into a fairly thin wash, started to paint tracks.
Image
Image
It went fairly well and covered one set of tracks in the alloted time.
Image
I'm planning on using a very "washy" mix of another colour from set, of the Rust Tracks, for a second coat. Just to get into the crevices and such.
......then, Mrs DW was home, and thats you're lot for the evening.
Take care out there, wherever you are, stay safe.

Morning all

Hope you and family well and keeping safe?
Well, I'm a naughty boy, as Boss has stepped out so I'm gonna do a small post.
Second evening that I have managed to "Sneak" into M/C for a very short period of dabbling and painting.
Having sat down and picked up model, and viewed previous evening's painting of one side of the tracks with the Mig Track Colour,
Image
Quite impressed with finish. As I had gone in with a heavily diluted 50/50 mix of paint and De-Ionised Water, the finish was blotchy but quite acceptable.
It was time to paint the other side.
That done, it was back to the 1st side and mixed up another wash of this colour with De-Ionised Water.
Image
This was then liberally applied into all Nooks and Crannies and very deliberately brushed over areas. Its difficult to see in images but not applied all over.
This is the end result
Image
Image
I had maybe ten spare links left over (Thank you Trumpeter  ), which I have glued together and will use to drape over vehicle in a position, TBC :D
I did a little more work on Exhaust Cover with the following paint.
Image
Image
This was applied very carefully with the tiniest piece of Foam held in Tweezers. Its come out very well, pictures to follow.
I sat last night, half watching some drivel on TV, but thinking about next stages of weathering.
I have some Tamiya Panel Liner (another product never used but seen used on YT, and very impressed with effect). I have always used Oils and Thinner for Panel Line works, so looking forward to effect.
I also bought the Shader Products Set by Ammo Mig recently, and haven't used as such, but am gonna try out the Light Green Shader on this kit just for experimentation purposes :o It needs toning down a tad to give a more washed out effect.
Anyhoo, Bosses car is pulling up, so should scoot.
Peace and Love,
DW

The only advice I can offer on the individual track links (having screwed some up myself) is to use a steel ruler to try and keep the little buggers in line and to tackle it in shortish sections to try and keep some vestige of sanity.
FWIW - when I did the BMP-1/OT-90 the tracks were individual plastic links. Instructions said to make them up in sections of x number of links and even the short ones had a pronounced curve. So I clamped two pieces of wood to a board the width of the track apart and built the sections up between them.
    Neil (yet another one...)

    On the board now:
