You're making great progress. HS chipping is something I haven't tried yet. I'm planning on doing it on my next model. Hopefully it comes out as well as yours did.

Thank you very much! Appreciated.
It won't stay this worn though, as I am doing multi layer chipping, so there will only be limited amount of bare metal showing through. Much less than this.
Best,
Nikola
Aha! Ok, I'll wait a while and see what you do with it. Looks good to me as it is though. Just sayin :th:

Hi gents,

Well, I got my multi layer chipping relatively ok, but I completely messed up the rest, as this time, I haven't waited long enough for pre-shading and the base coat to bond properly and started chipping too early resulting in two colors chipping separately.

It's a complete mess which I have to somehow fix, hopefully in the following steps with the second camo color.

Live and learn! :)

Thanks for looking.

Nikola

The whole thing really turned into a mess which I cleaned the best I could, but will still need to fix it.

Bummer, but it looks completely repairable. Your complimentary pre-shading is looking great!

:th: You will get there its something we have all done ourselves as we think its nearly finished so we rush things and some times we get away with it other times it gives us a kick up the butt. More work now yes but a lesson well learned I think. :bash: :bash:

Thank you BigWall! Appreciated. Glad you like the pre-shading method. I intentionally left it a bit stronger so it doesn't get lost afterwards due to weathering and tonal crush effect which white decals might cause.

I hope that I can fix it so it turns out decent in the end.

Hi Hawkmoon,

It was definitely a kick up the butt this time, haha. Thanks for the encouragement!
Lesson definitely learned! :)

Thanks Kev! Appreciated. :)

If you want to see where it all started with the colors and my complementary pre-shading method here is the link to one of my earlier posts:

viewtopic.php?f=193&t=27827

So far I have done a Zeke (exterior only) and a P-61 (both interior and exterior) with this method.

The toughest thing for me is to control paint coverage and weathering so the effect does not get lost.
With this in mind I left it a bit stronger intentionally and also because of the potential "tonal crush" effect when white decals and wing tips are added.

Thanks for looking!

Hi gents,

Somehow I have worked my way through multiple layer chipping. :)
Not 100% satisfied with the results due to few mistakes I made in one of the early steps, but lesson was learned definitely. :)

Pre-shading is intentionally left a bit stronger to avoid losing it due to weathering and potential "tonal crush" effect after white decals, wing tips and rudder are done.
Panel line washes will cover the more reddish tone in the recesses so it should be ok in the end (it's slightly more red in the photos than in real life).

Pics below. Thanks for looking guys!

Nikola

And a bad close-up. It looks much smoother in real life. The darn camera picks up all the little mistakes! :)

Well, there is some cleaning and polishing to be done! 😩

Hi guys,

A little update on the VERY SLOW progress with the Stuka (work, family, etc... you know how it is :) )

Next: Canopy to be painted and installed, engine and bombs to be assembled and painted, small details like pitot tube and the rest to be installed and painted, rear wheel to be painted, etc...

Anyway, thanks for looking!

Best,
Nikola

Hi gents,

Almost there!

Engine and prop... Check!

Things left to do - assemble, paint and install the bombs, attach the canopy permanently after painting and fitting the rear gun, install the antenna, paint the exhaust stains, some small things I probably forgot... :)

Thanks for looking!

Best,

Nikola

Finally finished it before I lost my mojo. :) The build really took long due to lack of free time.

I posted the finished model in another thread (link in my previous post).

Thanks for looking!
