Tamiya Ducati 888 Superbike 1/12

Post by ryan81 »

Hi guys, finally got around to finishing off my Ducati 888 which is my first bike build.

Some of you may have seen my clear coat mishap, which I have determined to have resulted from the final coat being too heavy :bash: Some of it cleaned up ok but in the end I made the call to buy a new kit, strip it down and go again. So I now have a spare kit (minus some decals) which I will use for a custom build one day.

To strip it down I soaked the parts in 70% isopropyl alcohol for about 36 hours. Even still, a decent portion required sandpaper to take it off, while some could be scrubbed off. I think a higher concentration may work better but couldn't locate any. Of note, after about an hour of soaking the clear coat appeared to all be gone and it was in quite a smooth condition. At this stage, it may have been usable but I wasn't sure if the paint's durability might be called into question. Stripped down state below

Anywho, here's a bunch of pics from along the way and finished product. Apologies for not starting a thread earlier but being my first bike I was too engrossed in building to stop to take photos.
