Tamiya Ferrari 310b 1/20 "Moncao"

Post by Coconutmilk »

Hi im building the Tamiya 310b from monaco race. This will be my 5th build. I have always been interested in F1 but didnt have the courage to do a build before now. So lets go!
I got this kit cheaply second hand, A surprise inside was extra details that i didnt know about when buying it.
It had some Studio 27 etchings
and some whitemetal parts with rain wheels

Edit: I am using a resource from modelersite. Its has been great so fo far

My current workbench/project

Part 2,

I cut the nose part off and and filled it with styrene sheets and putty, I also sanded/filled and primed the stuff a couple of times to try and get rid of all the dirty stuff/marks and so on.

Part 3

The fuel cap cap had to be moved from the left to the right side, I drilled a new hole on the right side moved the fuel cap to the correct position for the Monaco race. I then filled the hard edges from the cut with some putty and tried sanding it the best i could, I do not have small enough sanding tool to get in there 100% but it worked out well enough
I also had to shave off some plastic from the "back plate" as it didnt fit properly with the fuel caps new position.

Very nice! I built the Revell version a while back and it's OK - a bit simple.

I look forward to how yours turns out!

Thanks! I cut the nose off because i want to show an "open" model. Without the outer exterior panel that sits on the engine.
I dry fitted it, and making it fit 100% seems too hard for me. So the kit has some fitting issues. Making it open i dont have to deal with that:) It does however force me to learn how to make more details to make it look more interesting. And that is something ive wanted to learn for a while too :)

I have been working on some carbon fiber lately and painted the parts.
And i must say i absolutely hate it! Its so hard to get a clean look. Its also extremely fragile so just touching the parts with carbon fiber decal scares me. I hope to get better at this in the future

Some more photos.
1 off the "wood plate". I used tamiya deck tan, mixed with some yellow and brown.
Then dry brushed over with some brown oil paint.
First i tried dry brush with red brown acrylic in the front wich was a terrible mistake. It came out to "heavy" and impossible to blend in further. Acrylic thinner would ruin the 1layer of deck tan. So i switch to oil paint and enamel thinner. You can clearly see the mistake in the front.
The final result is so so... but it works for me. I will finish it off with a clear later.
Im also adding further connection point for pipes in the intercooler

Very cool so far! So strange seeing how much detail and comparing it to the 1/24 Revell version I made - yours looks so much better!
