ElCapitan's 1/35 Tamiya Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf.L

Straight onto the next one! I found myself near a hobby shop yesterday and poked my head in the door to see what they had. Came away with this, which should be an easy build and didn't break the bank.



Made a start today by attaching all the suspension arms and rollers to the hull. Easy peasy Tamiya stuff!

This is continuing to fall together. The top deck is now done, with most of the bits and pieces attached. I'll leave some off and paint them separately.



And the gun assembly, most of which will be hidden away inside the turret of course. The spaced armour is pretty cool.

It all looks pretty good. Must admit your cement application is flawless where I tend to slop mine around and worry about it later. I should try to improve myself in that department I guess.
The kit does look really sharp for a 1997 tooling....not bad indeed.

Lovely kit, I really enjoyed building mine. What paint scheme are you going with? I'm digging that you put on the spaced armor. I nearly ditched mine because it was too difficult for me.

I'm thinking the panzer grey Hermann Goering regiment scheme but I'm not 100% sure yet. There is only a side-view of it on the box, so not sure what markings would need to go on the front or back of it. I may decide to go with one of the schemes that there are full images for.

Turret is now complete and dry fitted onto the hull. Once I've cleaned up all the wheels it'll be ready for priming!

Just had a bizarre thought , but is it that Tamiya plastic with that color just photographs that much better than other colors ? Course it could be the photographer, but I don't want to be seen as crazy....

It does look nice and crisp. I think it's the pale colour of it that isn't so affected by shadows.

A bit of a jump since the last update, as I've finished the painting stage completely since then. The colour is Tamiya XF-63 German Grey and I've painted the tools etc using various Vallejo Model Color paints. I use black for the metal parts and drybrush with some dull aluminium, then beige brown for the wood, with some (very!) dry brushing of burnt umber to break up the block colour.



I should manage to get a coat of gloss on later today, and maybe get the tracks painted, then weathering can begin.

Weathering pretty much done - I'm not going too dirty with this one. I used some black and brown acrylics for chipping and rust, and some white and brown oils for streaks etc. I just need to paint the tracks and get those on, then matt coat the whole thing.

Looks funny with the drive sprockets and idlers missing
