Thanks guys! :thumb1: Looking to start the rear wing CF job tonight and hopefully this weekend get to the chassis.

You can see on the bottom side of the front wing that I completely missed some injector pin marks.
This is how I feel sometimes when I look at my WIP model!

Spent the last several days, when time allowed, doing the chassis up with CF decal. Looking back, would have been easier and less time if I would have just bought the Studio 27 CF sheet - after making all these templates, some that turn out great and others not-so-much. The $40-$50 for the sheet would have been a bargain considering the time invested making all the different wing, chassis, etc. templates.

Doesn't look a whole bunch, but this is quite a bit done. I think the CF decal really gives the chassis a nice look and just hope it's worth it in the end. :D

Did the chassis in the SCM 1424 plain CF weave, and the rear wing was done with the same stuff as the front wing, the high-def CF weave.

Got the templates made for the monocoque...

Wow! I've built a couple of Tamiya F1 kits but never with detail kits. I've got a Lotus 25 coming soon - I wonder if there is some photo etch for that?

Thanks guys for looking in - getting close on this bad boy.
Wasn't able to do a ton, what with chores and a lot of racing on this weekend,
but just a bit of clear coat and a few more details, then final assembly.

THANK YOU guys for following along on this one. Appreciate it - and appreciate the kind words.

If you guys ever see anything in the progress that would help, please don't hesitate to critique - I can take and want to get better - I feel I've gotten a lot better because of several of you guys answering questions. But if you see something that would help (or a tip/trick) that I didn't ask about, please pop in and tell me.

I have gotten a lot more confident doing decals because of Gary and Hawk. Still not great at it, but they don't scare me like they used to. A year ago there is no way in Hades I would've tried the CF Ducati or all the CF I've done on this one... so keep your tips and suggestions coming. You can even be mean! I might like it.

Cant fault the car all looking good. Just one question was your last clear coat a wet one. :cheers2:

Taking decal advice from me.....you're either very brave or VERY stupid!

It's looking sweet though, the decal work is great, you definitely have to be confident with them and just don't panic, they mostly go down in the end!

And I think what Hawk is alluding to, is the clear coat looks a little 'thin' if that makes sense, like you didn't apply quite a wet enough final coat so it didn't have time to fully self level, it could well polish out if you're going for a super glassy gloss finish, I have to really hose the last coat on with my 0.35mm airbrush to get it to build up enough, it just depends on the look you're trying to acheive. I think there is a fine line between too glossy and just glossy enough, especially on a race car.

This really is nit picking now though because you asked for critique! It's gonna be awesome when it's finished

Thanks guys. And I'm using the Alclad Aqua Gloss.

Image

I'm a bit nervous when doing clear coat, have to admit. The instructions say to apply 1-2 medium coats @ 15-20psi. And not to apply a wet coat to avoid sagging. Also, good eyes guys - the clear is thin in a few spots, trying not to put it on too thick and not being able to see what I was doing. It's way easier to see "paint" coverage than clear coat. I put way more on this one than I did the Ducati - the Duck has a dusting of clear, this one at least got two medium coats. Need to keep trying with this stuff, though, and just keep increasing the amount put down.

Picked up some Mr Hobby and Tamiya clears, and just learned that you can decant clear coat just like paint from a can. :thumb1:

Will say that the damaged BMW Goodsmile car that I got broken in the mail - I have saved it to practice a paint and clear coat on. I even thought about cutting it down the middle length wise and try two different paint jobs, just to experiment. :D

Thanks guys! :thumb1: [I'll keep tryin']

Just about got this one wrapped up... Got home from work tonight to glue pieces in place (the monocoque was just sitting on there earlier) and finish her up - but in my infinite haste, and ineptness, realized that I completely forgot to do up the mirrors. They were still on the sprue.
You guys are probably getting tired of seeing this car!

Anyway, here are a few shots from the gluing up tonight.

Hope to have the mirrors done this weekend and then can do the Tamiya Beetle up. :thumb1:
