Tamiya 1/35 Sturmgeschuetz III Ausf. G (Sd.Kfz.142/1)

Post by aur0ra145 »

Howdy folks!

Looks like I'm going to join you ground pounders and build some armor. This is a Tamiya 1/35 Sturmgeschuetz III Ausf. G (Sd.Kfz.142/1). From the wikipedia notes, this variant was made up until the end of the war. Personally, this kit comes with side skirt armor and I'm excited to finally build a model that has some.

The kit is from 1995 molds; but, it looks to be of good Tamiya quality. So far building the torsion bar suspension and glacis plate has gone really well. It's nice to have a kit just fall together. Plus, with a tank (or assault gun in this case), I can cover my mistakes up with fake mud!

Thanks for looking in!

Small update as I was excited to start the kit, I got a bit carried away.

I put together all the road wheels and I'd seen someone scar them by cutting hunks out of he rubber. So, I tried it! I think it came out well. It's really hard to no get carried away and over do it.

Thanks for looking!

Nice! What's also hard is to get them heavy enough that they show once painted and weathered.

That's a great kit, I built it a couple of years back and typical Tamiya with no surprises :th:

Looking forward to seeing what you do with it :pop:

Cant beat the old Tamiya Stug. Cracking little kit. Loving the wear on the wheel rims.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

Lost the mojo for a bit; but, I'm back to building. Most of the super structure is together. I had a heck of a time getting the locking nut on behind the muzzle break. It was too small and not tapped. So, I ended up drilling it out very carefully and refitting to the barrel.

Locking nut ??
I thought these things were just super glued. It is a nice barrel. I always think it is a shame to paint over the brass it is such a nice color :( still it has to be done. Build is looking like a good display piece in the making.

Think he's referring to the 'in life' locking collar, it's got holes around its circumference and secures the muzzle brake. In the kit there's a few little very small and flat washers plus the ring like this

Not a Stug barrel and his may not be an Aber but I think they're all very similar :th:

This actually was an Aber barrel. Which usually are perfect. This one gave me some fits though.

Nice....those are great turn tables too. I have that one and bought a extra that had all these holes drilled in the top. I thought it would be grear for when painting wheels and such. When it arrived I was so disappointed the damn thing :wtf: wouldn't turn and me disassembling it adding oil, smoothing rough bits it was still a yellow piece of s*^*T .

yeah, I sort of lost interest in this build. For some weird reason my mind flipped from armor all the time to airplanes.

Some progress made. The whole thing has now been painted. Some of the gear is getting painted and applied; plus I need to do decals.
