for the edges of the matting I used some thin plaster to blend the edges and then various grades of gravel and dirt using thinned PVA

The skill set on the forum is way way ahead of what I'm capable of and its fantastic to see all the magnificent builds on here, I'm making my way through a lot of the diaries and threads and wow the military builds blow me away, you guys really know your stuff. I'm sure I will pick up some new skills along the way and have some fun.
I started to paint the roof sheets in metal color dull aluminium and then a mixed top coat and scratched them up a bit, I will fix them to the roof and then try a little weathering. I have some warpigs rust pigments but never used them before so that should be fun (any tips greatly received)

I tried to find some barbed wire online in 1/24 scale or there about but couldn't find any anywhere so I thought I would give it a go

so I used some 28 gauge jewellery copper wire

will check it for scale my usual way as we progress

hopefully it will look about right

The barbed wire was fixed to the wooden fence posts with U tacks I made from wire pushed in loosely at first

The posts were weathered similar to the shed and then some light and dark Mig nature effects was added here and there

found a piece of dry dead root off a conifer in the garden and had a go at a dead tree.
the areas around the track had various mud and mig splashes and wet affects added' I plan to add more later
you can just about see bits of real welsh wool from a sheep stuck to a couple of barbs

Something I haven't tried using before was tissue and PVA, I'm sure you guys have done this many times so any tips welcome

mine got very damp when working it but dried hard so the final washes to come should take better. will come back to that later.

the seats (and you get a few) were a bit too tidy and new so I took a knife to them

didnt turn out as good as I wanted but they will do...

springs look a tad oversize but never mind..

I love doing all the bit n bobs, I spent an hour making a Bin and bin bags

think its a little oversize for this project but its easy to make a smaller one and once you have done one they get easier.

errr!
not sure about my tree

looks kinda ok but doesn't really fill the space so I may try something else, what do you think guys should I try a bigger tree or something different

only needed one or two tin roof ridge parts but made about five and picked out the best ones
Needed a ladder to fit these

bit of fun but Its far too big for this dio so wont be using it

Coming along great.
The birds nest doesn't look like it's settled into the tree proper...kinda floating. Maybe just the angle of the pic other wise the tree looks fine.

I really don't like it. I haven't used model trees before so wouldn't know where to start especially in this scale. I was thinking maybe a telegraph pole, not sure but I need something in that corner to balance it out a little

A corner stone wall would have maybe looked better than a fence thinking about it. gonna have to give it some thought

I had a posting frenzy

I have been slowly adding mig splashes in and around the tractor tracks and some Aqua magic for water effects, the washes are really good but the aqua is strange to use. I sucked some from the container with a small syringe so I could get into small areas but you have to add in small amounts, it shrinks and rises around the edges.
few weeks old these pics (no leafs on the dead tree) so its dry now and I can layer some more on later

I agree that the tree (especially the nest) might need a bit of a rethink - but the rest of it is just stunning.

That's the general idea matey, I could do with some tow hooks

I have a couple of chains that I rusted up with paint and pigments but I need some others and finding a 1/24 chain that looks like an old farm chain is not easy

the Mrs has already caught me in her draws

and slapped the back of my head (quite hard I might add

) followed by "get outa my stuff!!" so I'm still on the look out

I'm waiting for the postman to bring me some more additions so hopefully they should arrive soon.

I ordered some 1/24 bricks from modelbricks.com and they arrived very quickly. The scale looks kinda ok for what I need but wont know till I try some out. The finish on the bricks is very good and the colour is just right, a little more brick dust would maybe add more detail

After a fantastic 33rd wedding anniversary meal at home with close family and my adorable granddaughter I managed to grab a couple of hours to myself and lay some bricks

I love these bricks, they are made of plaster so when worked with your fingernails can look pretty convincing. You probably wont see them when the lids on the VW but that doesn't matter as it all adds to the scene and hopefully draws the eye.
The brick dust is excellent to scatter over the bricks so when the area is dry I will add a little more. when happy with the pile I dropped in some diluted Formula560 canopy glue as this will hopefully dry clear.

let that dry now and see how it turns out
