Old Decals any advice pls

Post by Jack85 »

Good evening all. hope someone has a bit of knowledge on the subject. have just bought some old f1 tamiya kits 1988/1990 and come complete but the decals are slightly yellowed but look for the most part intact. i have never used anything other than quite newer kits so will be a bit of trial and error i think. i cant seem to find replacements online so am going to have to run with these is there any advice on using these or any big No No's. dont want to wreck it when i get to that stage so bit of homework first. thanks

My Airfix Bentley decals were badly yellowed, I was told to pop them in a zip bag and leave on a windowsill for a few day. It works sometimes and clears them up a little, might be worth a try

I think I saw on one of Paul's vids that he used an ultraviolet light to fix this issue, although I think it took a few days.

As a bit of trivia when white paint in a house goes yellow it is also because of a lack of light and UV can fix that too.

could give them a coat of microscale liquid decal film first as a way of strengthening the existing decal film.

Look for replacements at Indycals...their decals are fair in quality, not too expensive, but not Cartograph quality

These were the Bentley decals I left in a south facing window for a few days, they whitened up a bit but the roundels cracked. They went brittle, is there a way of rescuing this one

I' afraid you are now up cactus creek without a paddle sitting on a pineapple.
Scott gave a link to a web site where you can buy new decals. That is Your only course of action now I think.
