Tamiya Ducati 888 SB

Started this just before Christmas. I've not built a bike for while now my last being my GSX-R750
I've run out of space to display anymore completed aircraft, that's another subject for later and didn't quite fancy an armour build just yet. This was a Christmas present a few years ago from my son, so I thought it's time to build it. Was one of my favourites back in the day, they still sound amazing you can hear the dry clutch rattle

Ok I've been quietly working away on the build. Work is back with vengeance, which is limiting bench time but it's moving along nicely

Started on the exhausts, there's a few complex joins with moulding issues the needed filling.

Wheels had mould seam issues around the centre of the inner wheel, took sometime to remove

Rear end now assembled, just the tyre valves to fit


Exhausts, those carbon end can decals where a real pain Typical Tamiya thick, brittle and way too long They literally snapped in places, they took hours to get them positioned and to lay flat

Forks, these where a real battle, the legs weren't circular but oval, the bottom yoke holes were circular, After a lot of fettling I got them to fit Not so fast, after spraying they still needed more to stop paint being removed . The top yoke is fitted by square pegs at the top of each leg they were so tight I snapped off one of the fluid reservoirs The stanchions were a real battle, took 5 goes with Molotow to get them right .

Thanks mate I think this a one of Tamiya's earlier kits, so there's areas that aren't as good as their more recent offerings.

Still some way to go, tidying up etc. The firing, tank and side panel is currently being worked on, colour and decal seal coats are done.

It's not a bad kit not up to Tamiya's later offerings but should look pretty good, fingers crossed

I'm on the home straight now
Frist gen TFT dash decal added and clear coated

Tank and rear body on, the decals in this kit are terrible some being really thick and other as thin as you like and tore in no time but wouldn't go flat you can see evidence of that on the rear white No panel. The bodyworks just been fitted here so covered in finger marks and dust.

Nose and side firings just out of the drying box, some light polishing required, got the odd tiny bit of fluff on them but I it will polish out. The nose No panel decal was a nightmare it just tore and pretty much fell to bits So I had to mask off and airbrush the panel instead. Due to the panel shape/angles and my lack of ever having done it before I got some paint bleed And the No 1 decal was much like the panel decal and fractured, in a few places, requiring a pain touch up here and there and it just would lay flat

Almost done, some polishing and fitting of the side panels remaining
