Opel Kadett K38 Saloon "staffcar"

Well, I let the little old car rest for a while, so I started on painting the guard shack.
I only painted the base colours, and did no shading, high lights, or weathering.
The roof is treated with some "dark steel" pigment from AK. Awesome stuff. How longer you rub the surface with it, the shinier it gets!

As for the shack it self, I wanted to airbrush it, but I did not. These sheds would be brush painted back then, so did I.
Also the red strips are painted with a brush.
But here's the thing, I painted the shack according to the paintsheme, but I think there was a blue stripe above the red one.
But I'm not sure about this tho....

Does anybody know how these guard shacks were painted?

Thanks to Coen, I succeeded to do a pattern on the guard shack.
I also did weather the shack. I tried not to "over" weather it.
Chipped the paint and added some moss, for it's standing in a grass dio.
The wood I gave a wash with wood aging solution from MIG.
I wanted to give the illusion of a shack that has been painted over several times.
The barrier needs painting.
Thinking of doing a white pole with red stipes. But i'm not sure about that yet.

Gotta agree with everyone else Frans, you have done an amazing job with it..
I too love the moss effect and the worn wood look. The roof looks like its clad in lead flashing its really good.

Well done my friend, can't wait to see the finished diorama..... How's your figure painting?
Judging by the rest of your work I would say the figures will be a breeze for you.

It's fun building this dio!
my figure painting skills are ok, I got experience with them.

Got to wait for two weeks with building and painting now, I'm needed on site for my work....

So I'm living in a hotel then! But when I'm back, it on to figure painting!

The whole thing is looking pretty amazing. As for the cracked window, if the Klear (Future) doesn't completely take care of it, you can always call it "battle damage."

Back from a two week holiday, and started building again!

Ok, During my holiday, I had some time to think what to do with this Opel Kadett K38...

And I have made my decision..

This Opel is meant for a brithday gift for my Dad.
He knows this vehicle from his childhood and has good memories of it.
But, The dio I was planning for it, would be to big for him to put in his showcase

So... I'm going to keep this dio with the guard shack for own use and put a nice other staff car on it.
For this Opel I'm going to make another smaller dio. More a vignette.
I'm planning to make it a little winter dio.

Starting with the base:

Made it out of soft foam.
The cobbles I made with some old brushes without the hairs.
I use 2 ore 3 different sizes and press them various in to the foam.
It does not have to be neatly this time, for it's going to be snow covered...

This is how I was planning this dio.
Added a figure too

He's waiting for help...

The car is going to be winter weathered.

So far, so good....

This figure is from Tamiya.
I had an old set in my stash.
"german soldiers at field briefing" Tamiya item 35212-1000
It's one of 5 figures.

For snow effect I'll use a mixture of white spirit, flat white paint, varnish and artificial snow.

Sorry for asking questions but being a newbie at modelling I find asking is easier than guessing how someone creates a finish or uses a product.

And no worries mate, You can Always ask.
I to had to begin sometime, and I'm still learning!

So, the base then.

That foam I use Is Styrodur.
Ideal for diorama shaping of base form, making walls, streets/cobblestones, scratchbuilding, etc.
Lightweight , easy to cut, sand, file etc. Gives vast base for further diorama techniques.

You can buy this by a hobby shop, but if there is a construction site in the in your neighborhood, the might have some in the waste bin there. This Styrodur is used as roof and wall isolation...

I primed the base first.
Than painted black ( is it me, or can I hear the Rolling Stones now?)

Then I painted some cobbel stones a dark brown colour, standard grey and some stones light brown.
Then it's time to dry brush...
First Dark grey, then Lighter grey.
And to finish with almost white.

The side walk is just dark grey and light grey drybrush., finished with white drybrush.

This base is snow covered, so I did not pt some sand between the stones, but normaly I do that with some very fine (modelers) sand.
When that is all between the stones, I'll take a mixture of wood glue, water and a drop of dishwassing soap.
Make it as thin as milk, and let it flow between the stones. When It's dry the sand will keep it's place.
That drop of soap is for better mixing the glue and water...

Finished the vehicle and the base today.
I gave the car a winterwash, and I used winter streaking grime on it.
Then some artificial snow.

Only thing to do now is painting the figure, and highlight the chrome stripes some more..

If you guys have any tips or feel there is something missing, please feel free to tell me

Was think of addeing a pole, bush, sign, blabla, bla....
This model is giving me a bad headache sometimes..

The car is glued on the base with some wood glue, it was not yet dry when the photos are taken..

It's looks fantastic Frans.
I love the scraped frost on the windows. Nice touch.
Once that figure is all done this will be a sweet little show stealer.

Yeah!
Finished my diorama today.
It was a dificult one this time, and it gave me headache now and then, but it was worth it...

Today I painted the Tamiya German NCO figure...
I love painting figures

Faces are hard to do, but practice makes perfect

After priming the figure, I painted the figure in all base colours.
Then I apply the lowlights. After that, I apply the highlights and give the figure a dark wash.
When that is dry, I take some white spirit on a brush, wipe it dry and start cleaning the figure.
Offcourse, not the face...

When that's done I drybrush the figure.
The gun strapp is made out of maskingtape.. Painted it leather brown, folded in half and and customized it..

Here's the result of my NCO

Than it was time to finish the car. Only thing that had to be done was painting the tail light and give it some last weathering...

SO HERE''S THE FINAL RESULT OF MY LITLE OPEL K38 SALOON "STAFFCAR"

Nahh... One whole day painting on this figure that is. And my wife still love's me!

Like this figure myself, came out nicely...

And a base frome blue styrodur foame... Figured out this foam technique myself!

Yeah man! First group build, first modern stuff. Push the boundaries a bit. GB's are like 3 or 4 months long so it wouldn't get in the way of your normal stuff. But you can go as fast as you like, I ended up doing three kits for the WWII GB.

And your armour skills on WWII will work just the same on modern stuff, except there's way more reference material out there!

PM me your details if you want the kit, it's the Zvesda BMP2D (Afghanistan theatre) and ill send it over.
Don't ask me what it's like, I've never done a Zvesda kit before!

PS Cold War GB hasn't started yet, so don't go rushing in, or you'll be done before everyone else gets going! Lol
