Setting Scenery in Resin

Hello folks, first time poster with a bit of a weird one for you.

I am preparing for a build in which I will be hollowing out 12mm thick wooden tiles, setting scenery pieces inside (mostly grasses, sands, gravels, etc.) and then filling the tile back in the clear epoxy resin.

The question I have to ask here is whether anyone knows how scenery materials such as those use for train modelling interact with epoxy and/or any resins. Has anyone done something similar before and if so, do they have any tips for me?

Hi! You have set a bit of a question.
Have a look at DeLuxe Materials website. They are a UK company specialising in all sorts of modelling adhesives and scenic materials etc. They have lots of tips and advice on their brochure that I guess you could access on line. It their brochure does not give you the specific information you seek, an email to them might help.
They may have a distributor in Australia / New Zealand. HTH

Sorry I don't have a answer for you as I haven't dabbled much in diorama's. I seem to remember though a guy who used to drill holes for tree's and use pva to stick into ground work. PVA also for sticking the tufts of grass down.

Hmm you should be ok….maybe do a small volume test with the resin
As an alternate, clear bathroom silicone would work as well

Check out Geek Gaming Scenics YouTube channel. There are videos covering just about any type of terrain material and adhesive commonly used in modeling, and while I don't recall seeing any specifically about embedding terrain in clear epoxy resin as you describe, there are a couple in which Luke uses clear and tinted epoxy resin as water in his terrain builds, and the resin is poured over various terrain materials that are meant to be at the bottom of the river or pond or sea he is building.

There's lots of You Tube videos of woodworkers/turners using two part epoxy over a variety of materials, plants, etc, including one I saw of a dead Huntsman spider.

I don't see why it would be a problem with the materials you mentioned.
