Porsche 911 Turbo

Kit to be used: Fujimi Enthusiast – Porsche 911 Turbo `85

Additional parts: No fancy bits, just some basic wiring

Paintjob:
It will be painted in a Porsche color named Dark Blue Metallic, paint is bought from Hiroboy´s store and the brand is of course Zero Paints. The parts on the front and rear bumpers will be painted to look like those semi matt plastic parts that were used on these cars.

Info about the build:
This is a kit I bought for at least 15 years ago and I have always wanted to start on this model. Its alot of parts and that means alot of details all over. I will build if OOB and just weather it alittle bit so that it dosn´t look showroom new but used(not abused)

I think a car like this holds it design good and the 911 looks almost the same now as it did when released in the old days. Therefore I think a modern color like the dark blue metallic will be great on this car, black, red and silver is cool but kinda standard on these cars in my opinion.

It will be built after the instructions since there is so many parts and fittings that need to be built in order.

Any thoughts and ideas about this build, let me know.

Now on to the first two stages if the build.





I also started on the chassis. Primed in black and then I added flat blue to get it to look used. Also added some weathering to get the dirty and oily look.

Brakes and suspension time. I went for this look.

This old Fujimi kit has its flaws compared to Tamiya/Hasegawa, the parts are rough and the fitment is so so..





Also the color of the body is this




Next up is the interior and that stuff. Some minor blue bits and parts will be painted but mostly black.

I think sometimes to build just what the manufacturer has given you is the way to go, it's all too easy to get bogged down trying to make improvements. That looks like a very interesting colour, look forward to seeing the shell painted.

That is what I thought too about the color. Black metallic isn´t the most exiting color to paint I think. So the blue color will perhaps be nice, along with matt black on the fender parts that´s plastic on the real car.

Its update time!

Interior is done. Nothing fancy exept some blue color on the door panels and the dashboard.
The kit is old, which also means that the decals is old. They cracked and wasn´t any fun to apply. So the result is what it is.
I only had some Tamiya Mark Fit decal solution and not the softener stuff (Will be bought next year )

Also started on the body, parts have been glued together and they fit quite well. First layer of primer is also done and next up is sanding and that stuff. Now on to the pictures

Get some good primer layers down and keep your coatings super light for that beautiful paint
It is gorgeous but often hotter than hell, able to melt plastic before you blink!

I´ve been thinking of that. Thought of maybe three light, two medium and one wet coat.

Im looking forward to finish this kit to, so that the next car can be built.

Stick with very light coats only, as there is no benefit to spraying medium or "wet" coats. The final finish is given by the clear coat you spray over the top and the light coats will give you a very smooth flat finish, ready for the clear coats.
If you spray a medium or wet coat you run a very high risk of etching the plastic which leaves a crazed finish.

Thank you for the advice, will take that into consideration when the time comes. Tomorrow I will prepare the body, sand it with 3000 grit and get rid of some small irregularities and some mess my airbrush made.

It has a bad habit of spitting abit. I use a cheap cheap airbrush for priming and a Tamiya HG airbrush for paint work. And the primer airbrush dont get so much attention to cleaning and service as the much more and better Tamiya airbrush.

Same here, I've not gone beyond but I find it does depend on what primer colour is used and the colour being applied. Just go for a smooth but flat/matt finish and remember it will be matt, matt is good

The primer is dry, the finish was great, just went over it with 3000grit and it was smooth...

It looks awsome this paint, when wet it has blue to black fade effect and Im curious about the effect the clear coat will have.

Update time!

Its taken abit to long time since last update on this. But now the body got a minor wetsanding prior to clear coat to get rid of some dust spots. Applied two coats of color after sanding and began building up the clear.

This is the result, now curing time in the spray booth before inspection and more details..
