2022 Build Plan

Post by Tomcat64 »

After my dismal performance last year with only two completed builds I thought I'd try & put up a plan based around this year's GBs & what I have in the stash and check in from time to time to see how things are going.
  • First up complete the BR86 Locomotive dio by the end of January
  • Not the Usual Conflicts - Takom's Panzer I ausf A in Spanish Civil War markings
  • Eggs - Meng Toons Panther
  • Maritime - probably Airfix's Blackburn Buccaneer, although other options are available including Matchbox's ancient He 115 & various F-14s
  • Sci Fi - Several options available but maybe the MPC Hawk from Space 1999
  • Large Scale Build - I only have one kit that qualifies for this and I'm not sure I'm ready for it yet
  • 1/48 Drop in - I'd like to get two builds in here if time permits, Tamiya's Panther and Eduard's Draken
As always nothing is cast in stone but let's see how I get on :)

Feel free to add your own thoughts for the year ahead.
Cheers, Neil

On the Bench:
Revell 1/72 Millennium Falcon - stalled due to stupidity
Tamiya 1/35 Stegosaurus Stenops

If you drew that plan up for me I'd say that's a little ambitious, but with you I'd say that you could do it :D

IF -and right now its a big IF - I get a room to use then the answers are Mi-24 Hind to:
Not the Usual Conflicts - Zvezda 1/72 Hind-E - Afghanistan

Large Scale Build - Trumpeter 1/32 Hind

1/48 Drop in - Zvezda 1/48 Hind E

Non- Hind topics are:
Maritime - Matchbox 1/72 Flower class Corvette and Revell 1/72 Type VII-C U-Boat

Sci Fi - Might do Stingray as I never actually started it or MPC Eagle with pod interior
    Neil (yet another one...)

    On the board now:

    Airfix 1/35 Alvis Stalwart Mk2 FV622
    Hasegawa 1/48 A8 Crusader

For this year I have some big ideas.

Not usual war: 1/48 Revell Tornado GR.1 - Desert Storm version with JP223 dispenser pods.
Egg: I got a pretty sweet Red Baron kit that would fit the bill.
Maritime: Either F-4 Phantom, F-14 Tomcat, Swordfish Seaplane, Sea Vixen, Yamato Turret. I have a lot of Navy/Maritime stuff in the stash.
Sci-Fi: Bandai 1/72 Millennium Falcon. I want to build it, wife wants me to build it, I think I'll build it. Also 1/72 B-Wing.
Large Scale: Either a 1/16 Chinese Army Type 94 Tankette by Takom or a 1/32 Bf-109 G-6 from Revell.

1/48: Lots of Bf-109's and other airplanes I feel like building.

Bottom line, I want to participate in every GB and SiG we have on the schedule this year. Plus, I have a backlog of Bf-109's I'm trying to widdle down. I'm also putting myself on a "little" bit of a kit buying hiatus. I just need to cleanout the shelves for more new stuff. I'm also probably going to sell a lot of the old terrible kits I bought back when I rejoined the hobby.

Been thinking about this. So here´s the plan, ish...

    - finish the Porsche
    - build a JDM drift car or two
    - attend the 1:48 drop in contest (still looking for something to build)
    - do a fast and furious build with my son
    - a high detail Nissan Skyline R34 with engine (eternity project)

Interesting to see what people have got lined up... looks like we should have thought about a MiL vs Messerschmitt GB if @RangerNeil and @aur0ra145 are anything to go by :) Hmmm... there's a thought for next year... anything that starts with "M"...

Great to see you thinking about joining the 1/48 SiG; as you're a car builder if you don't feel like venturing too far from your comfort zone how about an armoured car or staff car/jeep?

Nice looking plan there Carles - really ambitious.

We're running a "Large Scale" group build later in the year and any of the 1/32 builds would definitely qualify for that if you'd like to join in :cheers2:

Ok - we're already a month into the new year (how the hell did that happen??) so I thought I'd check in and see how my plan is going...
    • First up complete the BR86 Locomotive dio by the end of January - Yep Done & slightly ahead of schedule :)
    • Not the Usual Conflicts - Takom's Panzer I ausf A in Spanish Civil War markings - now in progress along with the ausf b from the same box as well
    • Eggs - Meng Toons Panther
    • Maritime - probably Airfix's Blackburn Buccaneer, although other options are available including Matchbox's ancient He 115 & various F-14s
    • Sci Fi - Several options available but maybe the MPC Hawk from Space 1999
    • Large Scale Build - Update - I received the Das Werk 1/16 StuG as a late Christmas present from Mrs TC so that will now be my entry for the Large Scale Build
    • 1/48 Drop in - I'd like to get two builds in here if time permits, Tamiya's Panther and Eduard's Draken

So far, so good... let's see what happens in the next month :)

Lots of cool builds planned. My plan is finish the 1/24 Typhoon, it might take all year. But after that will be a Tamiya 1/12 Ferrari 312B (1970) super detailed. That will be the year done for sure...

Well we've arrived in March so time to check in again on progress...
    • First up complete the BR86 Locomotive dio by the end of January - Yep Done & slightly ahead of schedule :)
    • Not the Usual Conflicts - Takom's Panzer I ausf A in Spanish Civil War markings - Just about done, just need to do the reveal photos of both the Ausf A and the Ausf B from the same box, so this should be done & dusted this week
    • Eggs - Meng Toons Panther
    • Maritime - probably Airfix's Blackburn Buccaneer, although other options are available including Matchbox's ancient He 115 & various F-14s
    • Sci Fi - Several options available but maybe the MPC Hawk from Space 1999
    • Large Scale Build - Das Werk 1/16 StuG
    • 1/48 Drop in - I'd like to get two builds in here if time permits, Tamiya's Panther and Eduard's Draken - I've made a start on the 1/48 Panther and despite me ordering the wrong grilles this looks like it should still go together really quickly

As well as the original list I've also made a start on a 75mm figure (Sir Lancelot du Lac from Big Child Creatives "Echoes of Camelot" series) which I've got no set timeframe on but will run alongside other projects as the mood takes me :)

So the plan still seems to be going well - will check in again in April :)
    Cheers, Neil

    Ok build plan check in
    Finished damn bike🥳
No motive to re-start damned pirate ship but that is next
Spring weather is pulling me away to outside and do more stuff there
Have a kit plan for the Easter Egg sig…there were very few of such builds done by anyone else last year🤔
I have still not purchased a new model kit in all of 2022…though wife was questioning a PayPal transaction that is likely the 1/32 Lanc coming through.

I have still not purchased a new model kit in all of 2022…though wife was questioning a PayPal transaction that is likely the 1/32 Lanc coming through.
Yae the bikes done and dusted !
Wife looking over the accounts.....YIKES !
Damn your will power is improving......or is it a cunning plan to get the lanc over the line/ threshold  ...........

March ended with snow flurries for us after a spell of warm weather, and April has started cold & clear.

So it's time to check in with the build plan... oh and a confession... :shifty:
    • First up complete the BR86 Locomotive dio by the end of January - Yep Done & slightly ahead of schedule :)
    • Not the Usual Conflicts - Takom's Panzer I ausf A in Spanish Civil War markings - Done and well within the time for a change
    • Eggs - Meng Toons Panther This is still the plan and might actually get started this weekend
    • Maritime - probably Airfix's Blackburn Buccaneer, although other options are available including Matchbox's ancient He 115 & various F-14s - I'm actually now leaning towards the Matchbox He115 for some reason...
    • Sci Fi - Several options available but maybe the MPC Hawk from Space 1999
    • Large Scale Build - Das Werk 1/16 StuG
    • 1/48 Drop in - I'd like to get two builds in here if time permits, Tamiya's Panther and Eduard's Draken The Panther is mostly built and has had a couple of coats of paint, but has stalled in the last couple of weeks due to work & weekends being slightly bonkers
    • Other stuff - 75mm figure (Sir Lancelot du Lac from Big Child Creatives "Echoes of Camelot" series) has been cleaned up & primed. Need to make a start on the painting
The plan is still ok despite a slowdown this month, hopefully now things are settling down a bit I can get the Panther finished & Lancelot properly underway.

Oh, and the confession... well I was lucky enough to get a bonus through work and after forking out for a new washing machine there was enough left to celebrate with a kit, so after three months my "no more new kits" rule got a bit broken and this is on it's way

Yes he is, but methinks he's building up to having to sneak the Big Lanc through the detectors

Besides... with all this 3d printing lark he's effectively growing his own kits... not sure where that falls under the rules

Looks like it's time for May's check in on the build plan...
    • First up complete the BR86 Locomotive dio by the end of January - Yep Done & slightly ahead of schedule :)
    • Not the Usual Conflicts - Takom's Panzer I ausf A in Spanish Civil War markings - Done and well within the time for a change
    • Eggs - Meng Toons Panther Done - this just took a couple of weeks and was a lot of fun
    • Maritime - Probably the ancient Matchbox He115
    • Sci Fi - Several options available but maybe the MPC Hawk from Space 1999 or a Fine Molds Y-Wing
    • Large Scale Build - Das Werk 1/16 StuG
    • 1/48 Drop in - I'd like to get two builds in here if time permits, Tamiya's Panther and Eduard's Draken Painting of the Panther is underway with the base colour down & camo in progress, and just to add to the complexity I've decided to pop this on a mini-dio with some figures too.
    • Other stuff - 75mm figure (Sir Lancelot du Lac from Big Child Creatives "Echoes of Camelot" series) has been cleaned up & primed. Need to make a start on the painting
So still making steady progress against the plan despite slowing right down again after the Egg build :th:

    How's everyone else doing?

Spring weather is pulling me away to outside and do more stuff there...definitely more to do on house outside projects
A bit of modelling progress for me:
Easter Egg sig…Space Shuttle dio in progress
Jurassic Park and Dinosaur 3D print diorama started and waning a bit
Started up the Miss Budweiser Hydroplane for the Maritime GB
I have still not purchased a new model kit in all of 2022, but Border models has apparently started shipping out the 1/32 Lanc to the normal plebs and not just the 'special' modellers. Maybe this month it comes

And before you blink we've arrived in June, so time to check in on the plan...
      • Maritime - Matchbox He115 - this is well under way with the main build done & painting underway
      • Sci Fi - Several options available but maybe the MPC Hawk from Space 1999 or a Fine Molds Y-Wing
      • Large Scale Build - Das Werk 1/16 StuG
      • 1/48 Drop in - I'd like to get two builds in here if time permits, Tamiya's Panther and Eduard's Draken Painting of the Panther is pretty much completed and a start has been made on the base
      • Other stuff - 75mm figure (Sir Lancelot du Lac from Big Child Creatives "Echoes of Camelot" series) has been cleaned up & primed. Need to make a start on the painting - still no progress on this one...
Hopefully I can get the He115 and maybe even the Panther done in June; I need to get at least one of them off the bench before making a start on the Sci Fi build.
      Cheers, Neil

Said it before and will say it again: Another month gone by, wow. The days drag on and the months fly by
Been super busy at work, just wiped out in the evenings and have lots of outside projects, cleaning and paperwork to do on the weekends. Weather has been shite too and have not washed /waxed /detailed my car from the winter yet either

A bit of modelling progress for me as I got something completed 🥳
✅ Easter Egg sig The Space Shuttle dio is done…..A weekend late but better than never
⛔️Jurassic Park and Dinosaur 3D print diorama: put it safely aside to finish the egg
⛔️Merlin engine(s) build put on hold too
⁉️Miss Budweiser Hydroplane for the Maritime GB: dicking around aimlessly 3D printing new Merlin engines when should just dive into the kit one.
♻️Black Pearl Pirate ship: been poking into this build a bit last month and got the stairs cases rectified and primed up. Celebrated Johnny Deep’s courtroom and public opinion win. Found a great reference photo/built series on the Pearl and a whole web forum devoted to building wooden and other ships .
🚀Bb8 and r2d2 are the plan for the SciFi sig
I have still not purchased a new model kit in 2022…god that is boring
Got a new tool though  A super cool model ship disk sander🥳

Today I clean up the model room and get a fresh desk before starting the SciFi Sig

And here we are halfway through another year... time for a midway check in...
      • First up complete the BR86 Locomotive dio by the end of January - Yep Done & slightly ahead of schedule :)
      • Not the Usual Conflicts - Takom's Panzer I ausf A in Spanish Civil War markings - Done and well within the time for a change
      • Eggs - Meng Toons Panther - Done - this just took a couple of weeks and was a lot of fun
      • Maritime - Matchbox He115 - Done - this came together really quickly and very pleased with the result despite the age of the kit
      • Sci Fi - MPC Hawk from Space 1999 - next up on the bench
      • Large Scale Build - Das Werk 1/16 StuG
      • 1/48 Drop in - I'd like to get two builds in here if time permits, Tamiya's Panther and Eduard's Draken
The Tamiya Panther is done and installed on a "Kursk" diorama base
      • Other stuff - 75mm figure (Sir Lancelot du Lac from Big Child Creatives "Echoes of Camelot" series) has been cleaned up & primed. Need to make a start on the painting - still no progress on this one...
Still happy with progress against the original plan - really feel like I'm neglecting Lancelot so hopefully I can try & give him some attention in between making a start on the Hawk.

Ooops - bit late with August's updates as we paid a couple of visits to the commonwealth games over the past couple of weekends so just doing some catching up...

Soooo... how does the list look now?
      • First up complete the BR86 Locomotive dio by the end of January - Yep Done & slightly ahead of schedule :)
      • Not the Usual Conflicts - Takom's Panzer I ausf A in Spanish Civil War markings - Done and well within the time for a change

      • Maritime - Matchbox He115 - Done - this came together really quickly and very pleased with the result despite the age of the kit
      • Sci Fi - MPC Hawk from Space 1999 - well in progress and not far off getting this one completed
      • Large Scale Build - Das Werk 1/16 StuG
      • 1/48 Drop in - I'd like to get two builds in here if time permits, Tamiya's Panther and Eduard's Draken
        - The Tamiya Panther is done and installed on a "Kursk" diorama base
        - The Eduard 1/48 Draken has been fished out of the stash and hopefully will be hitting the bench in the next couple of weeks
      • Other stuff - 75mm figure (Sir Lancelot du Lac from Big Child Creatives "Echoes of Camelot" series). Wonder of wonders I actually made a start on his cloak in the last month, it's not much as yet but at least he hasn't be completely neglected now.
Happy that the Hawk is nearly done as that got a bit bogged down as we were busy with other stuff at weekends, and great that Lancelot has seen some paint as well :)

      Good stuff Neil
You have had some great summer trips

Modelling usually takes back seat in summer for me. Lots of time floating in the little pool on hot afternoons after hot garden or garage work.
Am building a Little Library for my sister as I showed elsewhere. Project that has taken a life of its own.
Re-started the model purchases with the Border Lancaster 1/32 and now the Bandai Millennium Falcon 1/72. Both were far too good of opportunities to not add to the fold. Maybe have to thin the stash heard a bit this fall
Some work on the Jurassic Park dio; got nothing done lately on the Hydroplane for the maritime build
Those will happen in due time
Golfing Sunday evenings with family and despite some squabbles it is fun. LED balls are cool to watch in flight but hard to swing at in the dark!
I have a surprise week off at end of August, so see what I can get done for modelling. Depends on weather and trips too.
All in all having a pretty good summer

Finish another shelf queen, Sept 1 for the large scale build, Possibly start a buddy build with my friend Mr cooper who isn't on this forum and that's about it. I'm not going to aim for the stars. I don't want to pressurize myself. I'm going well in finishing a few shelf queens already so pretty pleased with the modeling year so far.

      Thanks mate :cheers2:

Yeah it's the same here - there's always other stuff to be doing in the summer so I was pleasantly surprised when I checked & realised the current Sci Fi Hawk project was only about 5-weeks old - I really thought it'd been dragging on longer than that.

I saw in the other thread that you'd been busy with craft stuff & fixing cars - there's always something around to suck up your time isn't there :)

You're doing great with finishing off those shelf-queens mate - I've got one that's niggling away at me so I really need to dig that back out of its box at some point.

It'll be interesting to see what comes out to play for the large-scale build

I'm in the same boat as digger, specifically not wanting to over extend my build schedule. On top of the model building I not only have my son Jarrod to care for but his older sister is going through a divorce after years of marriage. She has moved back home temporarily with a 15 yr old and 6 month old girls. So, the quiet home of Ben, Becky, and Jarrod is being rocked with the sound of young and teenage children.

Two weeks ago I blew out my right knee and had 5 syringes full of fluid removed. It was a come to Jesus experience each time they fished around with the needle. The good thing is once they removed it the healing has moved along much faster. Mater of fact I would say I'm close to 90% already.

Just prior to the divorce I stepped up to help my 15 yr old grand daughter to purchase a 2001 Ford Ranger 4x4 pick-up. It needs plenty of work, but that too will be taking some time away from building models.

Enough moaning about the blessing of life, for me my goals for 2022 are:

      - Finish Tamiya 1/350 IJN Yamato (DONE)
      - Finish Revival 1/20 Auto Union Tipo C (WIP)
      - Participate in ICM large scale Group Build (aircraft or armor)
      - Build either of the ones I do not select for the GB(the other aircraft or armor)
      - Solve the global food shortages
      - Restore the natural gas, oil, and fuel productions costs and availability
      - Broker a sustainable world peace

OK, not the last three, but the first four for sure.

On the table or recently completed:

      1/18 AV8-B Harrier - WIP
1/35 Churchill AVRE with SBG Bridge Diorama - DONE
      75mm BMW R75 WW2 motorcycle with rider - DONE

Wow Ben - life is certainly throwing you some hail-Mary's this year!

Well done for managing to continue building through all that lot - the Yamato was stunning & I need to look in on the AU Tipo too.

So that's two-thirds of the year in the books :eeek:

August was really productive build-wise with both the Space 1999 Hawk & Lancelot finished and collecting dust on the shelf :)

Here's how the list looks now
      • First up complete the BR86 Locomotive dio by the end of January - Yep Done & slightly ahead of schedule :) (Photos)
      • Not the Usual Conflicts - Takom's Panzer I ausf A in Spanish Civil War markings - Done and well within the time for a change (Photos)
      • Eggs - Meng Toons Panther - Done - this just took a couple of weeks and was a lot of fun (Photos)
      • Maritime - Matchbox He115 - Done - this came together really quickly and very pleased with the result despite the age of the kit (Photos)
      • Sci Fi - MPC Hawk from Space 1999 - Done - another one that came together quickly (Photos)
      • Large Scale Build - Das Werk 1/16 StuG
      • 1/48 Drop in - I'd like to get two builds in here if time permits, Tamiya's Panther and Eduard's Draken
        - The Tamiya Panther is done and installed on a "Kursk" diorama base (Photos)
        - The Eduard 1/48 Draken is now under way (WiP)
      • Other stuff - 75mm figure (Sir Lancelot du Lac from Big Child Creatives "Echoes of Camelot" series). Finished - once I got the colour scheme sorted in my mind it came together really quickly after five months of neglect since the initial build (Photos)
So really happy that Lancelot was finished off and hopefully I can get the Draken done before breaking into the StuG for the Large Scale Build.
      Cheers, Neil

Holy cow, Summer coming to an end :(
Been off on holiday the past week and back Tuesday the 6th
We have added twilight golf to our a Sunday evening routines as a family…been fun getting back into that
Both kids go back to school this month, different universities but close by
Finished off the little library for my sister last month and she was very happy

Modelling suffered greatly in August as it was hot and too hot to be upstairs modelling even with a/c
I have some new toys in the garage with addition of a micro lathe to my hobby addictions. I am sure you have seen me blab about it

Let’s see the modelling plan tally:
✅ Miss Budweiser Hydroplane for the Maritime GB: this is my main model focus for September. I just got the bottom hull glued together. Lucky it doesn’t need to float as fitment sucks big time. Some cool root beer Pearl paint arrived last week
✅ BB8 and R2D2. I will get r2 going soon and polish off bb’s details before September ends
♻️Black Pearl Pirate ship: on hold in dry dock
⛔️Jurassic Park and Dinosaur 3D print diorama: on hold to finish maritime and space
⛔️Merlin engine(s) build: put on hold too

Always find I drag in September with the loss of lazy days of summer. Will see how I go

I tried mapping out builds once. Just once. Bonus points if you get the reference. :D

Looks like you have made great strides in completing it though. Good work! Im just going with the what strikes my fancy when I am done with the current build format. LOL
