Fast and Furious duo build!

Post by KBF »

Kit to be used:

Revell Mitsubishi Eclipse
Revell Ford SVT Lightning truck
Aoshima Brian James Transport trailer

Additional parts:

Maybe some basic wiring and PE if avaliable for the cars and a mini figure..

Paintjob:

Like the movies

Info about the build:

Alright, this will be a duo build with my son. He got the Mitsubishi Eclipse as a present for christmas and wants to build it. We got a idea of building the Ford SVT Lightning aswell since they kinda belong togeather in the movies. Then after some looking on youtube I came across the transport trailer from Aoshima, then I suggested the followin plan for my son...

Build our own car, at the same time so that we can help each other, then build the trailer that can be mounted to the pickup and place the Eclipse on top of it. Kinda like a diorama..

When the plan was settled and the trailer kit orderd, we started building. The builds will be mostly straight OOB but some minor changes can apear. Also some basic weathering to give a more realistic look will be added.

The kits are nice with alot of parts and details. But its is not hard to see the difference in when the kits are produced. The Ford kinda reminds me about a older AMT kit because of the sprues are kinda rough and the cut of points for the parts are kinda big and needs care not to mess the parts up. But the Eclipse apears to be more ´´normal´´/new when it comes to the sprues and how much attention the parts need with cleaning and over molding.
Also the fitment of some parts for the Ford is not at the same level as Tamiya or Aoshima. There is some gaps that is impossilbe to close without the use of putty. Also the instructions on the Eclipse is jsut perfect for a beginner like my son. The pages are in color and they give great info about what to do.

So stay tuned for updates and this is how far we have come..

The v8 for the Ford is getting along, just some minor touchup with the paint and some decals

And my son have made some great progress on the Eclipse engine too, have a look!

Image
Image

The header and turbo looks great, perhaps some black panel line to get some contrast will make it look even better?

Next update will be when the engines are done! Stay tuned!

Update time!

Ok, its been a while. Due to some covid19 interuptions and work its taken some time. But now the car transport trailer has arrived and its a cool kit! I like it alot. Nice details and not so much clean up required.
Also, the F150 V8 engine is done, the Eclipse engine will be ready soon too. Thats my son´s project.

And on to the pictures

V8 powa!!

And here is the car trailer

For the trailer the next will be priming and then some Alclad Alu color. Then more parts will be added.

I will try to get more frequent updates

Noticed the gap on the last picture. That has been taken care of. Added some more glue that softned the plastic abit and had the part in a vice for five minutes and then it looks better. Some minor scriber work needs to be done one some parts to get the right look and effect from the panel line wash that also will be added.

Im planing for priming and alclad work tonight on the trailer and perhaps some more assembly on it

Alrighty... no new pictures today.

Had to do some sanding because of some mold lines that appeared abit to visible. Also did some more assembly with parts thats going to be the same alu color. So next primer layer and perhaps color tomorrow

Quick update! Trailer is in the works...

After priming and some pre-shading and ready for Alclad aluminum.
Image

First layer applied and some cure time... Its a long 15-20 min to wait..
Image

After two layers and some minor black details added
Image
Image

Next up will come soon. Fenders need some priming and some matt-black color to get the right look. Also the assembly for the wheels and drum brakes need some attention.
Also the rest of the alu-parts for the trailer where the car will stand Im thinking of a more "used" / blackened aluminum color.
Any ideas someone??

Super small update. I´ve been busy with work and have not had so much time to build..

Ok, so the Ford pickup is soon on it´s wheels and ready for more assembly.
I saw some youtube videos and got some ideas and inspirations. That is why the front suspension looks like this.
Think that this looks kinda cool and with some minor weathering it will look tuned and used.

Image

Also the trailer is soon to be finished. This kit is alot fun to build and everything fits perfectly compared to the Ford..

Image

Perhaps some more updates this week.. Stay tuned folks!

It's going back a few updates now , but I do like how the cooling fan has the exact colour of plastic. Is that a premixed colour.
The build maybe fighting you, but I think you have it's measure.

The cooling fan white color is actually not painted at all. Its the mold color, I only painted the black center with Vallejo black

Alrigthy then! Little update, just the interior parts thats been primed and they´r ready for paint. The body as mentioned before has been given some attention, but the fitment is bad and some creative putty work is needed along with some sanding and redefining panel lines.

Thought of a dark grey and with red or black details? Any suggestions??

Also since last time a 3d printer has arrived and the RC season is getting near, so some maintenance is needed...

First up.. Ford SVT Lightning...Interior is almost complete. Just some minor details and decals that will be applied soon.

Image
Image

And the Eclipse´s interior is getting some treatment too. My soon let me do the work and he does the planing and the decisions on how it will look. So some minor differences from the instructions will happen.

Image

The dashboard needed some putty work and also some sanding before paint and detailing..

Image

So next up is getting the interior and engine bay on the Eclipse finished. The door panels and seats must have a two tone paint job says my son, and he wants a brighter red color than whats on the Ford interior. A chrome NOS bottle will also be mounted along with the speakers that takes up the space for the rear seats.

And as mentioned before, the fitment on the Ford kit is BAD, and the Eclipse is better, and that continues on the interior

Ok, been alot of other stuff that takes time from modelling now the last weeks.. But I got the seats cleaned again and gave them some care..

Image

What I did wrong first time was this:
- Tried to use the Zero Paint Textured color with a 0.2mm nozzle, its reccomended with 0,5mm to not clog up the airbrush.
- I also tried to "fix it" with a paintbrush. Stupid of me..
- Also managed to get an blow out from my airbrush paint cup that made my desk, t-shirt and face look bloody.. Sry, got no photos of that.

I have primed alot more parts for the chassis on the Eclipse. Next update will have more pictures and hopefully something finished..

Cool the seats look good, but did you forget to do the black strip across the seat it was there before you repainted.
The interior is looking great.

They´r not 100% decided it they will return. My son aren´t sure if he wants them there. But he insists on a carbon fiber back on the seats.

Alrigth then!

Work have been done. Take a look below..

Image
Image
Image
Image

Also noticed that a decal in the steering wheel didn´t make it, but behold..

Image

And also body parts for both of the cars are in the priming and sanding stage. One layer of primer before fixing up imperfections and sanding the whole parts with 3000grit paper before next primer layer. Now its just to re-sand it with 3000grit/wetsand and then its color time..

Image

Next update will contain painted body parts and perhaps some decals too, who knows..
