Ok for starting out and on the cheap, I would go with…

Cheap Chinese compressor from Amazon or e Bay or local second hand/Craig’s list etc etc
Apex Airbrush from Ultimate modelling in UK
https://www.umpretail.com/collections/apex-airbrush
This gives you a reliable multipurpose airbrush and an ok air supply

Then add accessories like extra filters or a tanked compressor later as you gain experience
There is lots to read in the airbrush section here:

With regards to the airbrush and since you are UK based. The Apex might be a good workhorse all rounder to start with. I've heard many good reports about that one, but as you gain experience keep in mind the Mr Hobby Proconboy range. They are often over looked and disregarded yet they are a quality brush right up there with Iwata, share the same parts, built in the same factory, very easy to maintain and clean plus deliver a good result.

I'd get a Ultimate Apex airbrush and Amazon an air compressor that has a water trap. I have 4 airbrushes of medium to really good quality and I use the Apex 95% of the time. It is excellent and affordable. It comes into stock pretty regularly and is worth the wait.

Something like this for an air compressor.

Code: Select all

https://www.amazon.com/ZENY-Airbrush-Compressor-Airbrushing-Multipurpose/dp/B01M33C8MV/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1ZPUBW6AV7DAR&keywords=air+compressor+for+airbrushing&qid=1651367890&sprefix=air+compressor+for+airbrushing%2Caps%2C69&sr=8-5
Or whatever your local amazon type thing has.

It is a somewhat expensive start cost. But as they say, "Buy once, cry one." Instead of repeatedly buying poor quality stuff.

And the Apex is sold out again and waiting stock.
So good to have some alternates.
My little H&S Ultra is probably my favourite airbrush and not too expensive just small

I also would mention the need for a respirator or better yet a spray booth
Once you get a good booth it lets you spray anything without slowly killing yourself
