Revell 1/48 F-14 D

Post by ulvdemon »

So I am still on my kick of building models that I built when I was younger. Granted this is a re-pop of Monogram F-14A, still think this will be a fun build. Not going to mention that pilot figure though. Just.... no :wall:

Ahh, the smell of glue and paint during a build! :) Enjoy the update.

That looks to be coming along nicely Darren - what's the fit like on this one?

Fit is all over the place. It is an old Monogram mold so the panels are raised. Some places the fit is good, other places the alignment leaves one to guess. Most likely some of the issues are operator error. I do know that when it comes time to close up the model, it will have a long seam right in the middle of the forward fuselage that goes right through a number of panels if I am looking at it correctly.

Love the idea of re-building a kit that you remember doing as a kid
Brings back some fun memories and gives you a chance to redeem some bad ones
Keep at it :th:

Chugging along. Wings just about done, just need to be sealed and weathered then off to fuselage.

Thank you Aur0ra145, it's definitely a fun build and enjoyable to try something new, such as weathering. Wings are weathered, about 90% done. Just have to do where they swing into the fuselage. Weathering is not my strongest skillset, but I am "somewhat" happy with how it is so far.

I promise I am still alive, just wanted to post when I had something a litle more substantial to show. Almost done with the ordinance. Just the brown and yellow strieps and then some cleaning up and weathering. I am in the process of cleaning up the seams that are quite even and attempting to make them flush. So, enjoy.

That's a wee bit of puttying that you have had to do. Looks like some flaked off too. I don't enjoy seams much.

I actually wiped the putty off the seams along the side of the fuselage to checks if I needed to sand it down or fill it in. Hopefully not an upcoming issue .

Calling the missiles completed. I am through with masking those bad boys and dealing with the bleed under! Just a heads up, Hobby Lobby's tape for models sucks! :) Moving on to some more sanding and blending any steps that have come up. Then it is off to the painting stage.

More images to show. Almost done with the painting. Just need to do some touch ups then it's off to decaling.

Everything but the weapons are now attached. Wondering what the paint bleed is going to look like under the tape, but that's part of the process. Painting and decaling are now done, next step is now weathering.

You are doing great battling at this :th:
For paint peels like that one you could use a sticky note, cut a rectangle in it and use it as the mask for a “carrier repair”
The sticky note will not pull up your surrounding paint…unless the primer is Vajello ;)

Ahh... but it Vallejo! I am all bout the torturing myself!
Weathering is about 85% done, just have to add a bit more and some how add the walk ways that Revell/Monogram didn't add to the decals.... go figure.

Thanks, I will say if I ever have the crazy notion to build this model again I will do the gear up a bit different. Most likely build the nose doors together before attaching to the body so they are flush. The same with the main gear doors and the areas around the engines.

:wall: :wall: :wall:
On hold due to needing to replace the canopy and front windscreen. Someone *not naming names* accidentally let the heat gun get to close to the clear plastic. Guess what, it melts faster than regular plastic. I was literally finished and waiting to put it on the base!

***Update***
Contacted Revell and they are sending the part via mail. Awesome customer service.
