No Mojo.... again!

Post by chops1sc »

Guys, I can't believe I haven't built anything in 10 months! My workspace is a mess. Every time I try to sit down and get it organized and clean I just give up and leave.

I've got to pull up my big boy drawers and get it done so I can build!

It happens! I went for over a year without building a thing due to losing mojo and other outside forces. You'll get back in the saddle don't worry :cheers2: :th:

Subject matter could be the issue. Have you got a kit you REALLY fancy getting stuck into? If not, maybe have a wander round some online retailers and get something that really rings your bell maybe?

If you had something you really wanted to build it might give you the impetus to clear the desk and get started.

Just dont stress about it. The bench isnt going anywhere my friend. :th:
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

Having a clean desk really gets me wanting to open up another kit, but if cleaning the desk is hard to do. Then that makes life a bit hard.
Maybe just say to yourself today I will put my paint away tomorrow I will tidy my tools and just attack it in small chunks that way you feel you have achieved a small victory and on the way to winning the battle.
I took a leaf out of someone else book by cleaning the desk straight after I finished my Kettenkrad. I found it to be up lifting and I pulled out a horrible build I promised I would do for someone else..... I may put it back soon. I'm hoping the build calendar will be released soon so I can put it away. It's not a build that fills me with joy and it's going to take a tonne of paint.

Take five minutes and clean one thing off your desk. Then go do something else
Come back and do that again. A clean working space is a great motivator for me.

I get that, but I'm not sure why and me being a naturally untidy person it's all black magic to me....

I get you. It can be daunting sometimes, especially if you see all this brilliant modellers posting around you and you feel you can't keep step with them. That's when I usually pack it in. But I shift my focus on having fun and do the best I do without stripping everything 5 times and still not up to that, perceived, standard. Get in there, it's such a nice hobby and helps you to get your mind of stuff which bugs you for some blissful hours. You got this!

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone! I like the idea of taking small bites. I have a 4 day weekend starting tomorrow. Hopefully I can make time to start getting things straight. I would also like to get an inventory of all my started kits. I have a bad habit of starting a kit and then just putting it aside. No particular reason. Sometimes I don't like the subject, other times I get bored. Then there's the times where I try to spark the Mojo and it just doesn't happen!

Anyways, Thanks again for the kind words!

We all get bogged down from time to time mate - I think it's just a natural part of the hobby... I think I only managed two or three builds last year myself but managed to pick up again this year although I've slowed down again in the past couple of months.

Like digger I'm naturally messy when I've got a build in progress but Scott's idea of just cleaning stuff up bit by bit is great - as is Stokesy's comment about picking a subject you really like and cracking on with it - especially if it's something you're interesting in reading up on as well :)

Stick with it though - your bench and us lot will still be waiting when you're ready :cheers2:
Cheers, Neil

Got a good chunk cleaned up!

I actually already use Scalemates, I just want to get them out one by one and see how far along each kit is. I can finish the "low-hanging fruit", if you will.

I'm already starting to feel the pull toward building again. Let's see if it gets stronger!

I can see your like the rest of us. Going by your mat you do a lot of work in the bottom left corner while the rest of it is used as a storage area...

Good for you
A clean desk and a completed build are a great feeling. Got mine that way just after birthday early December

For CHRISTMAS I shovelled snow for four days and then got the stomach flu, missed Christmas dinner and most of my vacation days and still have that foggy weak brained low motivated body. Not feeling great about work, hobbies or self honestly
I try to just follow my interests for the day and go with that flow or else it burns out my mojo too. Honestly have gone through days this week of just wanting to sell everything and do something else.
I have many stalled projects sitting around at the moment….and then bought a kit off eBay today
We all get it and have to fight it, so you certainly are not alone

Happens to all of us. It is part of being human unfortunately.
Give it time, do something else completely for a bit like catching up on some research, sorting the garden out or catching up on some neglected household job of whatever and it will come back.
