Goals for 2023

Post by bfrd »

I will try and follow in Tomcat's footsteps, although I am afraid my feet will be too small!

I do have some big plans for 2023.
Site
  • Implement at least one new major feature
  • Update the paint references for the Color Tool in the Modeller Toolkit
  • Work on an administrative interface for the Contest Page
Modelling
  • Complete Participate in at least 3 of the SiGs
  • Multiple entries for the Yearlong Summer Sci-Fi
  • Knock out *ALL* shelf of doom projects (paint can or trash can)
  • Design and complete my Iron Maiden Spitfire Diorama Plan (will not fit into any of the SiG categories)
  • Build more models than I buy
Other Hobbies
  • Fix my flippin' laser machine
  • Finish at least one set of hobby knives/chisels
  • Play my guitar weekly
  • Take more pictures outside of the house
Personal
  • Lose a few pounds
  • Excersize three times weekly for at least 10 minutes (trust me, I need to start small)
  • Put the Falcon in the mail
Current Shelf-of-Doom Projects

WNW Albatross - This was my entry in the "Not Now, John" SiG in 2021. I stalled out right after drilling the holes for the rigging.

Tamiya Sd.Kfz.222 - This was my entry in the "Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert" build. I lost mojo after losing a rather large piece of PE. I really don't know how I could have lost something that big (turret cover).

Kinetic S-2 Tracker - I am building this for my F.I.L. as it was one of the planes he flew during his time in the USAF. I mucked up one of the decals and ruined part of the landing gear with my rolling chair.

Tamiya Porsche 911 GT - I was building this for a new employee at work. I lost drive after stripping it down for the third time due to an unfortunate masking mishap. I also had to terminate the employee, and that didn't help things either.

A small question....will you have enough time to get all this done

I'm really intrigued by both of these :)

This is really something I need to do this year as well - haven't played in a couple of years now and really need to get back to it
Cheers, Neil

I found two more kits that are partly finished.

A 1:72 Apache will likely get tossed due to a new Apache on the horizon.
A Master Grade Gundam that still needs decals and finishing. That one I want to finish up.

And to answer @digger303's question. Probably not.

I'll try and cover the main areas already looked at here already.

The hobby

Build more kits than I buy
Build regularly, not just to maintain tempo but to help with general mental health quality
Be disciplined with my kit purchases. There are only 2 kits on my list, the new Tiger from Andy's HHQ and one of the new Takom Apache helicopters
Up the tempo of my posting on the forum. I love contributing on here and the more I do it, the better I enjoy the experience

Other hobbies

Make sure I read more books. I have over a shelf full new books accumulated over the last few years' Christmases and Birthdays, I'm missing out by not working through them
Have more cinema days, enjoy getting to the movies more now the pandemic is well and truly done with

Health & lifestyle

Significant weight loss is required
Fitness needs a massive amount of work, my stamina levels have dwindled significantly since before and during the pandemic. I was in poor shape before the virus so there's a lot of work to do
Have a proper holiday. I need some time in the sun having not had a proper holiday for a number of years. Only thing stopping me is indecision!

Achievable? Certainly. Likely? Possibly
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

The HOBBY.
1. Finish the Arado
2. Finish the A10
3. Do my Perth buddy build of the m114
4. Build the AFV club Centurion in Aussie colours
5. Group build the Armoured car...undecided which kit as yet.
6. Finish building My 2 extra shelves for the cave.
7. Additionally design and add a small corner shelf for the cave as well.....it's tricky is why it gets it's own bullet point.
8. Group figure build.
9. Try to keep the cave tidy.....ha ha

Personal.
1. Lose a few kg ...target 82kg currently 85
2. Finish garden fencing
3. Brick paving up one side of the house.

Farm
1. Keep our head above water
2. Hopefully grow a decent yielding crop...law of averages is making that harder
3. Find a acceptable replacement partner to crop some of the land. Current guy has to pull out this year because of ill health.

For the hobby

- Get back into the swing of it all
- join and actually finish group builds
- Do more subjects other than just Soviet and eastern European armor
- Hopefully build a proper paint booth and picture area
- And of course, expand the Stash

Personal life

- Be more financially stable
- Make my truck look the way id like it to
- collect more military surplus gear and firearms
- Read more, I haven't done it much the past few years

Happy 2023 and I hope it's a good year for all :th:
