Hobby Boss PzKpfw 1 Ausf C (VK 601(

Post by Dunno »

I have started this kit after completing my Academy Panzer 111. The difference in the quality of the fit and mouldings between the two models is huge. The Hobby Boss is far better as everything fits.
The size of the model was a shock at first as it is less than a third of the size of the Pz 111.

Took some time to get all of the wheels and suspension on the lower hull but they look great. Will have fun with the painting after I have put down the base coat of primer.

The detail of the top deck is excellent and uses some photo etch parts. This is the first time I have used the PE and it has not has been as hard as I thought it would be. They have a holder made for jerrycans out of PE and it looks very real when completed.

I will keep updates coming as i get further into the build. Have completed the majority of the build last night and put down the coat of primer ready for the first coat of panzer grey. I am going to attempt to use the process shown in the video from ScaleModelMedic at

Just found some photos of the model during the war. Apparnetly on 40 of these tanks were built. They saw a little service after Normandy but were not very successful. They were mainly used as training vehicles for most panzer soldiers.

Great modelling on a wonderful looking kit - lot of detail in a small space! I look forward to seeing the next stages of the paint job.

ScaleModelMedic's is an awesome builder and teacher.
Good luck with the modulation Chris. It's a tricky thing but some folks swear by it.
I hope that's not the wife's table that you've painted on?
If it was... :eeek: :pistols:
It's been nice knowing you dude. :hi:

Hey Coen have you met my wife and not told me??? Luckily for me it is a pine spinner I got cheap from Ikea that I have in my spray booth which allows. Me to. Easily turn the model when painting. Well worth the purchase.

Just a question that some of you may be able to help with. What techniques does everyone use to measure out paints when mixing them, as I have Vallejo paints they come in the bottles with the pouring spout at the top so it is hard to see how much you put into the airbrush cup?

With Vallejo (or Vallejo style bottles) I count drops, with most other paints I'll use an eye dropper and count portions. i.e. three full eye droppers of paint to six eye droppers of thinner. :th:

A couple of images since I last posted. This has been on the shelf for a couple of months. Finally got some painting done using the modulation technique. Hard to see the result due to the images.
Have one half of the tracks together so hope to get the other side done soon.
