iv'e missed working on group builds the last couple of years. so i'm going to jump right in. 2 kits in the stash fit the bill, a eduard limited edition 1/48 DO 17Z and a airfix HE-111. i've been looking at the eduard kit for 2 days, lots of photo etch and a pretty complicated build maybe a little much at this point. the airfix is the motorhead 40th anniversary. i bought this during my rock and roll aiplane phase. i also have the revell iron maiden spitfire . so lets build the motorhead plane, my first airfix kit and i think my first 1/72 plane.
kit looks pretty good out of the box, decent looking detail. if any of my brothers from across the pond can give me a heads up on the decals, thick, thin how they behave i would be grateful . so lets take a look at what i'm getting myself into

Airfix decals can be thick or thin. Sorry this doesn't help. To illustrate - on the Whitely bomber I have on-going the decals were very thick and do not conform to the panel lines. On the Fairey Battle they were nice and thin and conformed really well. So it seems pot luck depending on the age of the kit. I hope you are lucky.

howdy folks got a little done, these 1/72 planes go together pretty fast. i don't think much of the interior is going to be visible, so just a quick coat of paint and a light wash and i'm calling it good. started to prep the wins and other pieces and ot them stuck on. fits been ok other than the wheel wells wasn't very easy to find the locations.





well it's starting to look kike a heinkel

Excellent work so far Krusty . I built this August last year and enjoyed it (in other words not too hard) The decals, if I remember correctly, seemed to go on with no issues, no splitting/tearing etc. I also have the Maiden Spitfire to finish (have messed up the painting of, my fault, so having to strip back- I'm calling it a learning curve!)

howdy folks
well the uild is progressing, those wheel wells came back to bite me in the ass. really messed up the locations of the engines had to do some major cutting just to et the engines in place, and they still don't fit the wings that well. a little putty and some sanding will get it close. also started painting some of the small parts.

i here you ther digger well still working on the seams lots of sanding, and not a lot of progress. looking at the underside of the model, me thinks i should not have glued the bomb mounts on until after thr decal was on, we'll have to see how that plays out. starting to glue some of the windows on and really don't want to think about masking them. i promised myself i would not start my tiger until this was done, yeah right

sorry to who ever has been following this, but i'm going to bag this. it has sucked my will to live. i could not get the clear parts to line up, and with the fit issues i'm done. the guys that can beat these kits into submission are my greatest heroes. i like kits that build well and i enjoy the painting and weathering.
i do have another bomber in the stash and if all goes well i should start it the next week or so.

AIRFIX strikes again.
It is a bad feeling when your deciding to ditch it or not, but once done it still hurts. It's for the best though, I'm like you I like kits to fit well. I don't have time to sweet talk anything.

FWIW - I'd recommend not binning it just yet. Set to one side so you can see it and get on with something else. I find doing that means after a while something clicks inside & you have a bright idea about how to fix one issue (maybe more!) and enough restored mojo to do it.
Look how long it took me to finish that Whitely....
