Tamiya 1/35th T-34/85

Well, I decided while I wait to do paint on my SciFi SiG build and waiting to get the SU-2 in for the Bomber SiG, I'd start yet another piece of Soviet armor

What we have here is a Tamiya T-34/85 in 1/35th scale. The tank itself really needs no introduction as beside it's smaller brother the T-34/76 series of tanks, the /85 is one of the most well known pieces of WW2 armor. It and it's smaller brother won the eastern fronts armor war much like how the venerable Sherman series of tanks won it for the western allies.

From research on this particular kit from Tamiya, the Hull and most of the parts come from their original mold of the T-34/76, creating this /85 kit in 2002 by adding the /85 turret and a few new parts to the box. Now on to the kit itself shall we





In typical Tamiya fashion, the kit is detailed but not overly stuffed where it would become needlessly complicated. 3 sprue trees, with the upper and lower hulls packaged separately.There is also a small neoprene sprue with the nubs for the road wheels, and of course the notorious rubber tracks.

The instructions are clear and concise



As well as a decent sheet of decals, enough for several vehicles to be built



I began work on the upper hull and turret, and as expected they practically fall together by themselves. No guessing needed, little clean up required.

Loads of progress already. Got some texture happening on the turret, fuel tanks are dinged ....tick

Got in some more insomniatic bench time today, upper and lower hulls are joined and essentially done, same with the Turret. Both just need some final touch up sanding/finishing.

All of the running gear is completed as well, minus some sanding seam lines on the road wheels.

After that she will just be waiting for the painting stage







Incredibly easy kit to understand and put together, would recommend it to anyone with an interest in 1/35th scale armor or Soviet armor in general.
