Tamiya 1/12 Yamaha Road Star Custom

Post by WordenB »

I thought I should post this one in the gallery as it's such a lovely kit, very easy to build and would certainly brighten up any display shelf, a real mojo reviver.
The kit is of the usual excellent Tamiya quality and comes with a multitude of chromed parts which are some of the best I've seen with most attachment points in sensible places. The only parts I felt the need to strip and re chrome with Alclad were the two that make up the exhaust as there was a bit of a visible seam line. I also used some of the Hobby Design p/e upgrade set substituting the brake disks and the metal parts on the lower part of the screen.
Thought I would have a go at the Street Rider figure that Tamiya have to accompany the kit, not really done a large scale figure since the old Airfix series at least 50 years ago. The kit comes with options of different heads and poses and again goes together beautifully.

This is simply stunning ! and nice to see a custom bike instead of a sports bike as we see more often. this is just perfect build to me. Nice job !

Thanks very much Francis, I always feel its such a shame that most of your hard work is hidden on the sports bikes.

Nice build and great paint work on the figure. Looks like you chose the right head (smile). From my limited experience building motorcycles, I think Tamiya definitely has the best kits out there. Regardless of the kit quality, the modelers still has to make the build come to life, and you have done that very well.
On the table or recently completed:

1/18 AV8-B Harrier - WIP
1/35 Churchill AVRE with SBG Bridge Diorama - DONE
75mm BMW R75 WW2 motorcycle with rider - DONE

Thank you Ben for your kind words. I have only built 3 bike kits, all Tamiya, but I would like to maybe try one of the Meng BMWs one day.
