The bad old days of Airfix - Bristol F2B + Fokker Triplane

This is the recent Airfix "Vintage Classic" release of the Dogfight Double, the Bristol F2B and Fokker DR1 Triplane
In all honesty, if I were Airfix, I'd have tried building a kit from the early 1960's moulds - and given up. It really is that bad! A complete Mojo sapper. You get:
* Ejector marks on virtually every visible surface of the two planes.
* Horrendous levels of flash.
* Nothing fits without requiring surgery
* Injection short-falls on some parts
* Parts moulded so close to the sprue you can't user nippers
And so on...
If I didn't love Bristol Fighters it would have been binned. And I have never binned a kit yet......
This is now they turned out - I gave up trying to copy the Fokker streaky paint, had a nose on the web and found Jasta 15 used to like their machines painted black and white.
















My recomendation - Avoid this one like the po

Your determination has that Bristol looking fairly good...you won through.

Comparing these two to the Defiant - or even the Swordfish is like comparing chalk and cheese mate. What, I think, miffed me the most is you pay a premium price for the "Vintage Classic" label. I expected, perhaps rather naively, that Airfix would have taken steps to ensure the moulds were closer to the modern ones. As a guide to what to expect the tail skid for the Fokker was literally a blob of plastic because the sprue attachment had grown with wear. It took nearly a day to reshape it to how the part looked in the instructions. In fairness the instruction booklet was the same standard as the Defiant and Swordfish as are the decals. I just wish they'd spent some more money in overhauling the moulds.

Very well done on getting them finished Neil but think I'll stick to Airfix's more recent kits which as you suggest are pretty good.
