old leather seats

Post by keith »

just read Bassmans tip on making seats look old so I thought I would share my take on said subject
Image
firs we take a seat this is a 1/24 mini seat Tamiya
Image
next i cover it with scotch masking tape this give the seat texture
Image
with a cocktail stick I pick out all the details
Image
and trim off the rest
Image
again just like Bassman does I give the seat a coat of tan light brown
Image
then a coat of semi gloss X18 in this case Image
then with a fine sanding stick or emery paper very lightly rub the areas
where you want the wear and if you want with a sharp knife cut the tape and peel back
put a dab of paint to look like old foam .
hope this helps sorry about the photos I used my Iphone and the best part is
if it dont workout right first time just peel off the tape and give it a nother go
Nostalgia isn't as good as it use to be

Awesome - one of the best uses of masking tape I've seen yet :th:
There can be only one!
Unless your building two, or three, or four - ah to hell with it.

Fantastic affect, added a whole new dimension to the seat and yet very simple to achieve.
Will keep this technique banked for sure
