X-Craft X-20, X-23 D-Day Operation Gambit

Post by rwsmith14 »

Hey Guys, I haven't posted in years, but I need your help. I'm building Merit's 1/35 X-Craft as X-23 On Day. X-20 and X-23 were modified, different from other X-Craft. Has anyone built an X-Craft as X-20 or X-23? If so, can you share it. Not many pictures of both craft. The images I have are screenshots from YouTube. My biggest question is the Camouflage scheme. Yellow Ochre, Stone and Hooker Green. There are no images of the camouflage that I can find. the B&W images of X-23 I do have, don't indicate a camouflage pattern but do show a lighter color on the hull and a darker color topside. any assistance would be greatly appreciated. thanks

The only pic I can see that specifically has X23 on D Day shows it as having a lighter band on the upper hull, black (probably) on the lower hull and some sort of very dark grey/green on the deck. It doesnt look like camo to me.

Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

Received my copy of " Undersea Warriors", today. I read some excerpts from the book, especially the parts on the X-craft. I did learn things, I have read about before, but it did not help me on the camouflage paint scheme of X-23. It looks to be a very interesting read. On a good note, after restudying the few images I have of X-23 from the Afternoon of June 6, 1944, there is discernable camouflage pattern on the hull.

So, my next question especially to my British friends here on this forum, the camo colors are: yellow ochre, stone and hooker green. The Stone color, would it be a grayish or tannish color, when it comes to British Camouflage color? thanks.

Stokesy44 , on the photo you posted above, you can see a light camo pattern just below the guy standing next to the induction mast and another patter right below standing on the forward deck
