Tomcat's MENG World War Toons Churchill

Post by Tomcat64 »

It's time for the lads annual Easter outing and this year they're adding another Allied tank to their collection
Image

On breaking open the box they found a couple of sprues
Image

Image

Some assorted bits
Image

And some guidelines...
Image

They normally try and get these done over the long Easter weekend but that might be a bit tight this year with other stuff we've got going on but they're going to give it their best shot

Happy Easter folks :cheers2:
Cheers, Neil

The chaos commenced yesterday when the lads inadvertently followed section 1 of the instructions to the letter...
Image

Although they also installed some weight to get the thing to sit properly
Image

This outlandish behaviour was enough to attract the attention of the orange enigma down from the shelf of doom to supervise the assembly of the wheels
Image

Picking up this morning they assembled the upper hull
Image

And the turret
Image

Then after drilling out some of the attachment points to make things a little looser they started on a dry fit
Image

Oh yeah... Dave volunteered to "drill" out the machine guns since he's apparently an expert in making holes in things
Image

Here's how it all looks minus the assorted greeblies that will be painted and added separately
Image

Talking of paint...
Image

Image

As a tenuous side note I only found out recently that young Will Robinson was played by the same actor that played Lennier in Babylon 5...

Thanks for looking & stay tuned... :cheers2:
Cheers, Neil

Well Easter Monday's project time was cut short with an unplanned visit to the vets - Bonniepuss was a little under the weather but happily she appears to have picked up now.
Image

So a quick update from last weekend where the lads had successfully sprayed everything with British Light Stone (the instructions called for Light Earth but they knew best...)
Image

They also sorted out the painting of the wheels which inevitably involved some masking tape
Image

And they started sorting out the tracks & assorted bits n pieces
Image

Onto this week and a decision was taken to brush paint the camo pattern (mainly due to me not wanting to let them near the panzer putty...) So suitably equipped they put down a couple of coats of Medium Olive
Image

They then pulled the two hull sections back apart and installed the wheels & tracks and gave the undercarriage a grimy wash
Image

Then they added some of the tools & bits and put the upper hull back on permanently - the spare track piece is currently drying which is why there are still a couple of locating holes visible
Image

And finally popped the turret back on
Image

They still need to add the decals & pick out some details but we're nearly there... if we get some time in the evenings this coming week we should hopefully get it done :)

Thanks as always for looking :cheers2:

Lovely job thus far!!!
As an aside - the actress who played his Mum in Lost in Space", June Lockhart, was also in an episode of Babylon 5 - the one where the alien healing machine first appears.

So close to getting this done before we went away on holiday but didn't quite make it...

The lads did manage to get all the decals down
    Image

And then this afternoon it was finished off with a dusting of an earthy tone to provide a suitably used look, and picking out some final details
    Image

With that done the lads can take the rest of the year off to work on their next project
    Image

I'll break up the grown-up camera to get a final reveal up over the weekend

Thanks as always for looking :cheers2:
