Seems both us have to push on for fit issues !! although yours a lot more ! Still struggling with the seam on the underside for mine as the distorsion of the body is causing me lots of headaches repairing it finally...

Seems I wasn't as close to the paint as I thought. Well I did get some primer on then saw how terrible a job I had made of it. So it was a step backwards and back to cleaning glue and smoothing off the plastic. The plastic seems so easly to damage.
Thanks for looking in.

Yeah once I install it only the top will be visible and it's recessed. The tubing is to stop me dropping it inside and never seeing it again.

Hello everyone it's been far to long since my last update. I had a little problem since my computer last updated with the computer not recognising my phone when I tether it via usb.
It takes me a age to work out these technical issues never the less I managed a wifi connect and transferred the pic's that way.

Trying something new with the aim of highlighting the ribs and the linen streched over them. I started this process by using the voyager
template creating masking strips. I should have remembered I have rolls of the extra thin tape and saved myself some time...
Image

High lighting areas
Image
Image

A light off white to reduce the starkness and blend it a little for the under sides and a green for the top sides.
Image
Image

Removed the tape and then using a heavily thinned paint in this case green to blend it some more. I couldn't help , but pose it with the top wing on :)
Image

Image

Next thing was to mask off the wooden clear finished around the cockpit.
Image

Once that was done then I laid down a base coat of a acrylic light yellow. A light brown was then sprayed through a wood panel stencil and after that and enamel AK brown WOOD wash. This went on way too heavy and dark even after I had thinned it so I got a dry brush to soak some of it up. This did what I wanted , but was still dark so I grabbed a tissue and wiped it heavily resulting in what you see now.
Image

Thanks for tuning in guys I appreciate the comments good or bad....it all helps.

I agree, nice paint striping and blending, neat effect. The wood treatment is not bad either. This is adding up to be quite an achievement, considering its humble beginnings.

Great job digger!

Thanks guys much appreciated.... :th: :th:
The mask set I'm using
Image

First the outside square in white. Bit of a bugger to cover when going over a light back ground, but over a dark base and it's easy....weird.
Image

I've gone back over the the brown with a clear yellow acrylic ink I had stashed away and quite please with the effect.

Not so amazing when you look close Francis and unfortunately I have had a fiasco with my u beaut bought masks.
The mask is made from a material which is both a little thick and stiff and tends to shrink. That's why you can see the white backing paper where the cut outs are.
Image

So actually applying the masks that are too small results in gaps. I did try to make that space up with masking tape and the left over used portions of the kit....Wasn't my best idea I should have just used masking tape exclusively. Now I have this mess to clean up
Image

The tape being stiff and the adhesive being weakish. Much less so than Tamiya tape it lifted in places despite being burnished down. So some sprayed under the mask...more mess.
Image
Never using that crap again. It would be fine if it hadn't shrunk and was on a flat surface is the only good thing I can say about it.

Whoo...deep breath

:cheers2:

Ps... The name of the manufacturer of that mask set is...Model Maker Decals out of Poland.

Thank you. It does have loads of my self induced flaws and my patience with this is waning.

It has been huge gaps in new updates with this build and I haven't progressed much further.
I added some ezee line rigging, which took longer than I thought as the line actually resists bending so getting the two bits together to CA them required me to twist the bits together.
Image

I cut those bits of foam in order to get the two wings the right distance apart and also to hold them in place while I fiddle with the struts. I forgot to gloss coat and protect the paint in my haste to actually achieve some progress. The insulation foam is abrasive so I have a couple of paint less bits. Very frustrating as all the paint layers are going to be spoiled.
Elastic bands are to help pull the wing up and also to keep the struts firm whilst the glue is setting.

Image

Side view.
Image

Procrastination is dragging this out, but I shall finish it

The drum beat very slow :wall:

The rigging is done, but now I've got a awful decal problem.

The decals after doing this test first didn't go well.

Image

and another went the same way. On the third try I first applied Microscale decal film repair and this was a improvement at least the decals didn't shatter.
Image

So I took the plunge and applied these almost irreplaceable decals well without having to send to Poland for another set.

Image

However as you can see the blighters just wouldn't stay down flat. It seems the Microscale when it dries shrinks a little causing the whole thing to curl up once released from the backing paper. It was worse than this, but with multiple applications of VMS decal set and soften I managed to get half the curl out. I think some CA is in order plus some white glue, but I doubt I can fix it 100%.

I hate it when, despite what you do, you're let down by poor products. The least we should be able to expect from a decal is that its sits down on a basically flat surface. :bash: :bash: :bash: Decals can make or break a kit and I hate being held hostage when they turn out to be shite.

I feel for you mate :th:

It's just another problem in a long line. Good news though they are now 95% flat...Ca to the rescue

Just wanted to say here nice work ! even with all the obstacles. Love the color and love you wood effect on the fuselage, which is much better than mine.
And thank you.

Your very kind, but I may have mucked it up as the dark pattern was a acrylic and I sprayed aqua gloss over some of it. I don't want to sand it back and muck it up more so I'm hoping the matte will maybe not fix it , but hid it.

It's a bit rough and when I first did it it looked like I had reactivated the dark paint. The feul/oil caps don't look to bad when you spet back the required 3 feet :D
Image

Here I have dropped my phone on the Camel....PE just isn't strong enough. It already have a side ways bend and I have my doubts that it will ever be good enough to sit on the shelf unaided. I may put some pins in the bottom of the under carriage for it it to sit on.

Getting near the end now and I just came across this and it is interesting to any builder of Camels after all it did shoot down more enemy aircraft than any other type even though it is slower. There's also a interesting explanation of why this is tricky to fly and the way a rotary engine works.

Your modeling on this from the basic kit to what you have is amazing! This is either a labor of love or fortitude.

I feel your pain on those decals... Perhaps you will be lucky and the varnish will lay them down the rest of the way(?)

Your too kind it's got loads of mistakes someone else wouldn't have made and I gave up on., but I thank you for the kind words.

OH definitely fortitude or the way I read it....just thick in the head ! :bash:

The one decal did lift a bit . It was the first one I did one the other side of the fuselage I changed tack a bit. Using VMS decal solution I added some to the decal while it was on the backing paper and after a bit placed it into the water. When it separated I applied it as per normal with some solution applied to the fuselage, slipped the decal on then did the usual with a cotton bud to remove the excess and squeeze the air bubbles out. It went down quite well.

Image
Image

Can see the decal lift here.
Image
Image

Paint has a few blemishes. Could be a masking tape problem leaving tape glue residue. I'm having a similar issue with another kit and don't know how to remove it as anything I try is removing paint too, if I had a varnish layer in there it wouldn't be a issue. Can't always do that though.

It's on the shelf now...thank the lordy
