NUNU 1997 Volvo S40 BTCC

Post by alphabrimble »

On to my next build and for the first time since joining the forum I’m doing a car which isn’t a Volkswagen. This is also the first time building a model from NUNU. This is the Volvo S40 from the 1997 BTCC specifically the brands hatch winner.

The first job was to prime up the pieces. And then on to painting the first part of the interior. The outer floor and rear bulk head was painted in white and steel and the rest of the floor pan was steel with the centre being painted white.
Image
Then I had to paint the fire extinguisher and emergency stop key red and the rest of the center console in steel as well as some other accessories in black.

Image
Then I had to add a couple transfers to the centre console and fire extinguishers

Image

Then I had to glue all these parts together creating the floor plan

Then I had to build up the roll cage and paint it silver. This was quite tricky as the instructions didn’t make it clear on which part connects to which

Lol !!! This is my favorite! I still have 4 or 5 "VHS" tapes of the BTCC - yes, VHS, that's right, I'm that old.
Rickard Rydell was my favorite driver back then!! I miss the BTCC - what a great series...

Will def be following.

A little more progress today.
The first thing I did was add the seat transfers and the gauge cluster transfers.
Image

Then I had to stick in some more of the centre console and gear stick in place.
Image

I also painted up the dashboard.
Image

Once all this was dry I had to stick the seat in place.
Image

Then I built up the dashboard by attaching the steering wheel and gauge cluster.

Then I had to stick in the dashboard and roll cage

A little more progress this weekend.

The first thing I had to do was paint the door panels in steel and silver then attach this to the cockpit.

Then it was on to building up the chassis first I stuck all the pieces that needed to be painted the same colour then I had to paint it black then I painted some parts such as the engine and exhaust.

Image

Then it was onto building up the front and rear suspension and adding other parts to the chassis

Then it was adding the brakes and skid pans

Had another weekend on the Volvo today and completed it.

The first thing I did was add the backing plates for the rear lights and drill out the hole for the spoiler and aerial. I made a mistake here as I only need to drill the two centre holes for the spoiler and not 4. Luckily with the transfers on this isn’t seen.

Then it was the front lights and front grill to attach.

Image

Then I had to paint up the window rubbers and stick the windows into the body
Image
Image
Image
Image

Then it was onto adding the glass lenses for the lights and attaching the rear bumper and the transfer below the spoiler and attaching the spoiler
Image

Image
Image

Then i had to attach the wheels and body to the chassis
Image
Image

Then it was the big job of applying all the transfers
