1/32 Defiant Mk 1

Just came across a review on YouTube of a forthcoming new release - the Bolton-Paul Defiant Mk1 in 1/32 scale.
Maker is a small firm called Airscale Pro, cost is £295 and its expected to be released first week in June.

Its a 3D printed kit with injection moulded transparencies. First production run is already sold out!!

Wow that isn't cheap at $616 aud plus post, I'll be passing that I'm afraid and truth be know if I did have that to blow I'd be buying some unique resin land based kits.

Sadly neither am I - although in truth thats because I invested in JetMads 1/32 Draaken last year.....

Really too expensive for any model in my opinion ! is it airscale, the company that does decals ?

I also think 600 AUD is beyond belief.

No doubt it's a stunning kit, detail is excellent, but so are some of Tamiya which are only about 220 AUD

Its the "we make the only xxx in this scale so we can charge such prices " factor - have you seen what JetMads charge for their Viggen and Draaken? Or BorderModels for their Lanc?? (I know HK do one too but....)

I dont know JetMads, but from what you're saying it doesnt sound cheap. Probably great kits too. This one is undoubtably a nice looking kit.
So I suppose if you got the cash and you want to build these things, fine, but on ther other hand there is no short supply of more economical kits out there.

I just checked jetmads - i do want that 1/32 lear jet...

They work on VERY limited production runs - trick is to keep an eye on the site, register for their e-mail updates, and as soon as they announce a new model or a new run pre-register your interest. I got the Viggen because I e-mailed them asking if they'd ever do a a re-run. They replied saying yes,was I interested? (is the Pope Catholic??) and so I became #1 on the pre order list. Had to wait over 18 months to finally get it not inc. the 7 weeks Royal Mail lost the entire shipment from Turkey. Draaken so far is 9 months, mainly because 2 sets of part runs were rejected and had to be re-run. Latest news is shipping is expected to start in June. They are expensive - but GOOD. I've got itchy fingers to start on the Viggen but need somewhere to put it first once its finished.

Its like everything in life - if a lot of firms make things they get priced to sell, if only one or two make them then tbey get priced at what the makers think the market will bear. When I worked for Ford the analogy was always Ferrari vs. Ford. Why would people pay over £100,000 for a Ferrari when the RS Cosworth Sierra was jst as fast on the road*, more comfortable and practical and (amazingly) better built for half the price. Simple answer was Ferrari was sold as a "supercar" with very few makers of such things so were priced accordingly whereas the RS Cosworth was thought of as being merely a fast production car - which effectively it was.

* On a race track the Ferrari was marginally faster - but VERY few Ferrari owners ever took them to the track.

How do they sell out when it is 3D printed? They can print as many as they want for very little cost. Manufactured scarcity to promote FOMO is why. Stick to Airfix and put it on a smaller shelf.
