Revell 2017 Ford GT LeMans & Tamiya Ford GT4

Post by barryf1fan »

Welp, decided to start this one as I've had it for quite a while now, actually have two. I ordered the Wynns livery from Scale Motorsports a few years ago, but decided to build the stock version first. Since I'm gonna try and do the 2K clear I wanted to have two bodies done to spray (I mean, really, why screw up one kit when you can potentially fubar two!!).

Anyway, couple of shots of the start - the body was a bit of a challenge to "put together" as it comes in two pieces. Will need to make some 'sprue glue' (never done this before...) and fill in some "gaps" before laying down the primer...

This will be a slow build, though, as I still want to do the 2 McLaren F1's once done with the Scooby WRC... hopefully not 4 years slow, but you never know. :D

Thanks for looking in! :cheers2:

Love it Baz! I really enjoyed building mine a few years back now, from what I remember, the roll cage didn't want to be a roll cage and the fit was very vague, but apart from that, it goes together really nice :pop:

Thanks sir. I've read through your build a couple of times and will def be 'referring' back to it throughout... :th:

Yes, the paint will be a challenge... especially with the 'front' & 'rear' pieces already put together. Didn't realize what a challenge it would be painting the underside of the "wings" with it already together. Oh well, challenge accepted.

Thank you...: Been trying to get better, and by that I just mean more patient.

Not a lot of pro-gress, just body work and got the primer down (also on the Mustang GT4).

Going to work on getting these two painted and decals on and do the 2K clear... then back to the WRC Scooby.
Thanks for looking in.

haven't had a ton of time to work on well, anything - but did get the blue shot.

Image

Need to fix the front - didn't shoot the red on the front bumper right, but that's okay as I am really just doing this car and the Mustang GT4 to practice with the 2k clear.

Started the decals on this one, so far they go down really nice but have been a challenge.

Also shot the clear on the Mustang GT4 - it's the Mr. Hobby stuff as I'm still too scared to try the 2K clear... one day.

Sorry for the lack of participation... been busy the last couple months or so, and built a couple of these as well:

Thanks for checking in... Gonna finish the Subaru WRC and then prob get to work on the Ford GTLM... but, have Sebring 12 hours coming up and wife is planning a vacation - and here and there will need to work.

Thanks man!!! I have waaay too many R/C cars and trucks... It's actually more of a problem than the static models...

Couple of the Axial SCX-24's - 1/24 scale

Image

Traxxas TRX-4M's 1/18 scale

Image

Image

This Bronco actually has a bunch more upgrades, just haven't taken a pic of it yet..

Image

Couple of the Axial UTB18 buggies... these things are awesome. Added some LED's to them.

Image

And some 1/10 scale stuff.
Couple of Vanquish VS410's

Image

Image

Both of these have been upgraded with dig function and selectable overdrive.

And my 1/10 Traxxas TRX-4's

Won't even start with my R/C race vehicles... it's ridiculous.

My other, other hobby...

Little time to work on the 'Stang... Fun little kit, but I am a COMPLETE doofus. I was test fitting the front and rear suspension and got so ahead of myself, that I had the wheels on and was looking at a couple of the pics I snapped and realized I didn't paint a couple of areas on the underside. :wall: :wall:
I mean, it's okay, it's not like I ever look at the underside anyway. :D

Painting the black on the tail lights was a bit of a pain... but turned out pretty nice.

That's a beautiful finish despite the speed bumps along the way.

Were the decal saves replacements or hand painted repairs? The '18' looks great in the photo

Also, I love the look of the Ford Mustang. I dont know how it measures up to other comparable cars but it certainly looks good.

Yeah, had another kit to steal from - so really was easy. The tail lights were a bit of a challenge to get right (by the instructions) so I just did the best I could. I have seen some where people didn't even bother to paint the black portion of the rear light lens'.

Thanks for looking in!! :th:

Well, I think they prob weren't completely set when I clear coated... and the black side skirts are kinda weird to attach, so I used some tape in three places to hold them in place while I glued and let setup. removed the tape (which I did slowly) but the decal on each side came with it.

Luckily I had two of these kits as I am going to do one in this livery...

Work on the GTLM again. Trying to get this one done as I haven't been into this one much, and not sure why as I really dig this car but the excitement just isn't there.:

Will say that this kit is definitely a challenge, the roll cage was a straight up frustration. May be that I did something wrong - but I test fit it all up, painted and it just was wonky (scientific term...) and finally got it together with Tamiya thin quick-set and some tape (a few choice words as well). Got the interior pretty much done and will start attaching suspension and wheels/tires soon. Need to finish the rear wing so I can clear coat... hope to have it done soon'ish as I am really "jones'n" to do the McLaren F1 build...

Test fitting before interior decals and glue. :D

Image

Brake discs have some decent detail...

Image

Pic doesn't do the wheels justice - will say they are gorgeous, and shot in LP-19 Gun Metal. Crazy cool color and went on fantastic.

Image

Image

Didn't grab any final pics, sorry about that, but hope to finish this one in the next week or so.
@Gary30 mad respect, sir!! I am realizing just how good you are... this is not a kit for the faint of heart (or the dork that pretty much only builds Tamiya kits  )
Thanks for looking in!! :cheers2:

It's definitely NOT a Tamiya kit  That cage fought me all the way, I thought I had built it wrong as well as it was so far out, yours is looking real nice :

But yeah it just saps the mojo when stuff doesn't fit properly, this is meant to be a fun hobby right?! :wall:

The few brain cells that I have left don't like being called upon too often, so Tamiya all the way for me too now

Looking forward to seeing this one over the line though

Just in case you care (or didn't know) the A-pillar was black on these cars, it ties all the glass together in one big stip, front and both sides, just in case you're in the business of rivet counting and want to change it before buttoning everything up: 8-)

Dang!! Thanks for posting that, and yeah, I'll definitely update that - easy fix. I have also noticed that some of the cars had yellow lens headlights and some are white, or clear. Not sure why, other than maybe for night multi-class racing (ie., LeMans 24, Daytona 24, etc...) versus a complete day race or something...:

Thank you, sir, for the heads-up!! :cheers2: Also need to paint the little triangle area (behind the door glass) black. :?

Nice work. Ford vs Ferrari was on tv the other night. Ford got it right with this line of car.

Agreed, it's a beaut of a racing car. Got to sit in the road version years ago at the Ford Nationals yers ago...

Inching closer to the finish line on this one.

Some detail done like the wing and mirror, lights, and got the clear coat on a little while ago.

Nice looking kit that I just didn't do justice to... it was a challenge, but I just didn't take my time with it either.
Thanks for looking in! :cheers2:

Thank you, sir. It's got "rush marks" all over it, but it's okay as it looks nice in the case - legitimate '5-footer'.

Nailed it! Painting that A-pillar makes a massive difference, I have seen a few builds where that has been left blue and I'll be honest, I have lost sleep over it
