Tamiya 1/12 Ducati Superleggera - Take Two

Post by MrBowcat »

Afternoon all,

I built this kit a couple of years ago, and whilst I don't typically re-build the same kit, I couldn't pass this up. The original retail price for the kit (going by the box sticker) was £52.50, I picked this one up at a car boot sale last summer for £15! It was untouched with all the sprues still in their sealed bags. Bargain!

With the original build I faithfully reproduced all the carbon elements with CF decals (including the wheels), but with this one being so cheap I decided to have some fun with it and build a motorcycle that I imagine a US rapper or Saudi Prince might own. In other words, bling.

Here's the progress so far.

The frame is painted with Porsche Ice Gray, whilst the engine and rear suspension is a mix of Tamiya TS-21 Gold, LP-48 Sparkling Silver and LP-21 Italian Red. The swingarm, hugger and wheels which should be carbon fibre are LP-40 Metallic Black.

I appreciate this won't be to everyone's taste, but again I'm just having a bit of fun and trying something different.

Oh man what a bargain…sometimes just too good to turn down; usually happens when you have money stresses yourself and have to justify the buy!

Sweet kit, nice bike will follow you along

All of us get lost in the darkness, Dreamers learn to steer by the stars,
All of us do time in the gutter, Dreamers turn to look at the cars.

Afternoon all.

I finished this one up today, pics are int eh gallery. I just wanted to add a few final build pics here.

I decided to instead of using decals for the panel fasteners to drill out the holes and use some AM stuff I had.

Then it was just a case of plumbing up the front brakes, adding the handlebars, tank, headlight, seat, rear fairing, and the side fairings.
