Border 1/35 B17G First Test Shots

With their 1/35 Heinkel 111 about to hit the shelves, Border Models are not resting on their laurels and have released test shots of their new B17G in 1/35.







I was chatting with a B17 fan at the Peterborough model show last week and he was talking about the merits of the various Fortress kits out there. He said he rated the old Monogram kit the best as its the most accurate. I asked him about the raised panel lines on the kit and he said that's not a problem. The way the aircraft was put together and riveted, the panel lines SHOULD be raised. I did some further research before posting this and the aircraft skin is put together with lap joints and pronounced raised rivets so he's very much correct. This has been captured on the kit and it looks stunning.

















I made the mistake of looking at a FB group for B17 modelers and despite saying its an improvement on anything else out there, a lot were piling in on things they thought were wrong. It seemed utterly joyless to me although I bet plenty of them will buy it then winge their asses off while making it.

That's going to be a huge kit. If I did the math right, the wingspan will be just shy of 1 yard/meter. I'm going to need to build an extra shed outside to store it in.

Looks to be a very detailed kit but like all aircraft you'll not going to see 80% ish of all that detail. They need to do one side that's clear, I sure there's a manufacturer out that used to do that
